Job description

Summary of Expo Position:

The Expo acts as the bridge between the kitchen and servers, ensuring timely communication and that each order meets quality and accuracy standards.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Food Handlers Certification

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organize food according to orders to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Facilitate communication between the kitchen and service staff
  • Ensure food is prepared and served in a timely manner
  • Verify food orders before service
  • Communicate menu changes to management and servers during service
  • Notify servers when food is ready for pick up
  • Set up the expedition area at the start of each shift
  • Prepare and place garnishes on appropriate food items
  • Prepare trays for servers with the correct plates for efficient delivery
  • Ability to perform light food preparation and side duties as needed
  • Complete side duties as needed, such as polishing silverware, restaurant setup, and filling condiments
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or director
  • Commitment to providing excellent guest service and maintaining high quality standards

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of restaurant service procedures and proper food handling
  • Understanding of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate between kitchen staff, servers, and management
  • Ability to organize and prioritize orders quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment
  • Teamwork skills to work effectively with kitchen and service staff
  • Attention to detail to verify orders, garnishes, and presentation quality
  • Physical stamina to carry trays, plates, and supplies safely

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum one year experience as an expo/expediter

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Ability to lift and carry trays, plates, and supplies safely
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain order accuracy
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

Expected to keep work location a safe and healthy work environment. Utilize basic safety measures to keep the work environment safe. Report any safety concerns to your supervisor. Where safety rules or best practices require that protective clothing/glove/shoes/equipment to be worn, or apparatus utilized, employees must wear clothing /gloves, shoes and equipment and use the apparatus.

  • Wash and sanitize hands after removing trash, eating and drinking, using the bathroom, touching own face or hair, or handling food prep
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the duration of the shift
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and lift and carry up to 40 lbs. or more
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, hot (kitchen) and cold (walk ins)
