Job Description:
Job Summary: The Certified Pharmacy Technician I-IV assists the pharmacist(s) in storing, preparing, distributing, reconciling, and charging all medications and other healthcare products to the appropriate areas serviced by the pharmacy. The Technician works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and will only perform activities that are in compliance with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
  1. Accurately and efficiently prepares and labels medications. Always obtains a final check from the pharmacist before dispensing/delivering a medication or releasing any compounded medication.
  2. Tracks prescription orders via pharmacy programs to ensure correct delivery information is given to patients.

  6. Monitors and ensures adequate inventory is maintained in all areas.

  8. Ensures medication management processes meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
  9. Performs routine tasks using existing policies, and has conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a discipline, typically acquired through technical training.
  10. Develops competency by performing structured work assignments, and receiving instruction, guidance, and direction from others. Continues to build knowledge of the organization and pharmacy processes.
  11. Performs a range of straightforward assignments related to discipline, uses prescribed guidelines and policies to analyze and resolve problems and receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
    Inpatient and Oncology Pharmacy
  • Accurately prepares IVs utilizing the aseptic technique, under the supervision of a pharmacist, in accordance with USP Guidelines and Texas State Board of
  • Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
  • Assists in maintaining unit dose readiness of bulk products. Verifies barcode scan accuracy.
  • Makes timely rounds and accurately and safely transport medications and other pharmacy supplies to assigned areas.
  • Replenishes stock in the automated dispensing system, crash cart trays, and specialty medication boxes accurately and timely.
  • Performs and documents quality control activities, including monthly medication storage area inspections, and completes information on all required log sheets.
  • Performs daily ADS routines (outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading/unloading, etc.) and troubleshoots all ADS issues (pocket/drawer failures, temperatures out of range, interface issues, etc.).
    Outpatient Pharmacy
  • Assists in triaging and filling prescriptions while maintaining productivity standards.
  • Performs cashier functions and processing daily and ad hoc reports.
  • Verifies and updates patient demographic, insurance, and prescription information into the computer system.
  • Assists patients by providing excellent customer service directly and via the telephone.
  • Use associated hardware and software to complete pharmaceutical transactions and associated duties.

Qualifications:
    Required Qualifications:
  • Current registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • National certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a pharmacy technology program.
  • Sterile Compounding Certification accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
