What does an SMB AE do?

An SMB AE, or Small and Medium Business Account Executive, is responsible for selling products or services to small and medium-sized businesses. Their main duties include identifying potential clients, managing sales pipelines, conducting product demonstrations, negotiating contracts, and maintaining relationships with existing customers. SMB AEs often work to understand the unique needs of smaller businesses and tailor solutions accordingly. They play a key role in driving revenue growth within the SMB segment of a company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SMB AE?

To excel as an SMB Account Executive, you need strong sales acumen, knowledge of business development strategies, and often a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce, sales automation tools, and digital communication platforms is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and persuasive communication help build lasting client relationships and exceed targets. These abilities are crucial for effectively managing the sales cycle, driving revenue growth, and maintaining customer satisfaction in a competitive marketplace.

What are some common challenges faced by SMB AEs when managing a high volume of accounts?

SMB Account Executives often juggle a large portfolio of small and medium-sized business clients, which can make prioritization and time management challenging. Balancing personalized outreach with efficiency is key, as each client may have unique needs but limited budgets. Additionally, SMB AEs must be proactive in identifying upsell or cross-sell opportunities while maintaining strong relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. Adapting to rapid changes in client priorities and finding scalable solutions for recurring issues are also common aspects of the role.

Small Market Account Executive

Handtevy-Pediatric Emergency Standards

Davie, FL • On-site

$90K - $110K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Posted 28 days ago

Job description

Emergency clinicians make critical decisions in seconds. Handtevy is the Clinical Intelligence platform
built for those moments, trusted by EMS agencies and hospital emergency departments across all 50
states.
We are hiring SMB Account Executives to own our high-velocity outbound motion across small EMS
agencies. This is a hands-on role for ambitious closers who want to move fast, learn from real customer
conversations, and earn meaningful commission while building a track record.
If you have 2 to 4 years in B2B sales, are hungry to close, and want a clear path from SMB to Mid-Market
and Enterprise, we want to hear from you.

Who We Are:
Handtevy is a healthcare technology company headquartered in South Florida. 3,000 EMS agencies and
200,000 clinicians rely on the Handtevy platform to deliver safer, faster, and more consistent care.

The Role:
You will own a portfolio of small EMS agencies and standalone hospitals across a defined geographic
territory. Sales cycles run 30 to 60 days. You will close 50 to 60 net-new accounts per year and report to
the Director of Sales.
This is a high-activity role. You will run your own outbound motion: cold calls, personalized email
sequences, social outreach, and conference follow-up. You will run your own discovery, demos, and
negotiations. We provide the leads, tools, and coaching. You bring activity and ownership.

Responsibilities:
• Outbound activity: 30 to 50 personalized outbound touches per day across phone, email, and
LinkedIn.
• Discovery and qualification: focused 15-minute discovery calls; every call ends with a clear next
step or documented disqualification reason.
• Product demonstrations: tailored 30-minute product demos that connect Handtevy capabilities to
specific operational and clinical pain points uncovered in discovery.
• Negotiation and close: navigate pricing, contract terms, and procurement; most SMB deals close
with a single decision-maker, but you will occasionally encounter committee dynamics.
• Pipeline management: meticulous Salesforce hygiene and accurate weekly forecasting.
• Conference and event follow-up: process inbound leads from EMS conferences, webinars, and
marketing campaigns within 24 hours of receipt.

Qualifications:
• 2 to 4 years in B2B sales, with at least 1 year in a closing role (BDR-to-AE promotions count).
• Outbound discipline — you have personally generated meaningful pipeline through cold calling and
personalized outreach.
• Activity benchmark capability — you have hit and exceeded weekly activity metrics in a prior role
and can describe what those numbers were.
• Salesforce or comparable CRM proficiency; experience with sales engagement platforms preferred.
• Coachable mindset — you actively seek feedback and apply it in the next conversation.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Preferred:
• Background in EMS, fire service, healthcare, or related field — even non-sales roles count.
• Experience selling clinical, healthcare, or B2B SaaS products.
• Demonstrated career progression: BDR to SMB AE, or similar promotion path.
• Familiarity with sales engagement and prospecting platforms.

Compensation:
• Total OTE: $90,000 – $110,000 at plan (60/40 base/variable split)
• Accelerators above 100% attainment
• Promotion path: Top performers move to Mid-Market AE within 18 to 24 months
• Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, generous PTO
• Location: South Florida HQ, hybrid (3 days in office)

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug-Free Workplace.
