Job description

Advertised Job Title: Administrative Support Clerk (Data Entry)
Internal Job Title: Clerk Typist/Data Entry
Maintaining efficiency and economy in operations management requires flexibility in job assignments. While each employee shall have a primary responsibility for the job that employee has been hired or later promoted to, each employee may be expected to perform other jobs from time to time.
SUMMARY:
Under direction of the LRV Maintenance Analyst, the Clerk Typist/Data Entry is responsible for completing various clerical and administrative tasks including typing, filing, answering phones and mail distribution.
Application Review: Priority will be given to applications received by August 12th, 2026. The position will remain open until filled.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions
  • Enters data and checks for accuracy.
  • Correctly files both electronic and hard-copy documents.
  • Prepares and sorts files alphabetically, numerically or by other pre-determined categories as needed.
  • Operates standard office machines and completes general office tasks.

Duties May Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following:
  • Acts as receptionist, answering routine questions regarding non-technical activities and directs callers and/or visitors to the appropriate individual based upon the basis of their business request.
  • Sorts and distributes mail.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations; ability to read, understand and apply MTS policies, regulations and union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn and use other software that MTS might have or acquire; ability to complete a variety of administrative support for the LRV department; ability to interact in a professional and friendly manner the general public and MTS employees; knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 WPM from rough drafts, plain copy, or dictation machine; ability to recognize and question unacceptable, incomplete or questionable data; skill in making numerical computations accurately and expeditiously, both manually and with a calculator; ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and adhere to prescribed routine.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting, bending, reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 15 pounds). Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work will at times require more than 8 hours per day or an irregular work week to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment and may require travel to external locations and agencies.
Experience/Education/Certificates/Licenses
Must possess a high school or high school equivalency certificate; additional courses in a business curriculum at an accredited college or business school are preferred. Possess a minimum of one year's experience in an office environment or performing related clerical work. A combination of relevant education and experience may be acceptable. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License or be able to utilize alternative transportation when needed to perform job-related essential functions.
GENERAL:
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable post-offer examinations, including but not limited to a pre-employment physical conducted by an independent medical provider, a comprehensive criminal background check, and, when applicable, a pre-employment drug test as required by MTS Board Policy 35.
SALARY:
$21.93 per hour
The top rate is currently $27.78 per hour. All hourly rates are subject to negotiations with SMART and are therefore subject to change.
