Position Overview


We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our team. The attorney in this role will manage a caseload of family law matters, conduct legal research, draft pleadings and agreements, communicate directly with clients, and represent clients in court, mediation, and negotiations.


This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is interested in developing or expanding their family law experience while working in a supportive, collaborative small-firm environment.


Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, and adoption cases, from intake through resolution.
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategy, hearings, and motion practice.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents with precision and clarity.
  • Prepare for and represent clients in court hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and negotiations.
  • Maintain organized and accurate case files using the firmโ€™s case management system and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements.
  • Collaborate with the firmโ€™s attorneys to develop case strategies and identify practical solutions for clients.
  • Communicate directly with clients and guide them through the legal process with professionalism, clarity, and empathy.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, responsiveness, and client service.


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar required.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to produce clear, persuasive, and well-organized legal documents.
  • Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small-firm environment.
  • Genuine interest in developing a career in family law.
  • Prior family law or litigation experience is preferred, but not required.
