The primary purpose of this position is to provide a Small Engine Mechanic Supervisor for oversight of inmate personnel.Qualifications:In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Federal Wage System Qualification Standards WG-8600 - Engine Overhaul Family
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/federal-wage-system-qualifications/#url=WG-8600. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training, that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to remove, replace, clean, and install a variety of components, accessories, and parts of systems, such as wheel cylinders, universal joints, wheel bearings, springs, shock absorbers, catalytic converters, clutch assemblies, mufflers, components of air conditioning and heating systems, carburetors and suspension systems, etc. Using tools and equipment both standard and metric (e.g., torque wrenches, brake tools, analyzers, circuit testers, dwell meters, tachometers, etc.); on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment; operate diagnostic equipment, gauges, and meters; use of test equipment such as test lamps, timing lights, tachometers, multimeters, and dial gauges. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

• Ability to do the work of a Small Engine Mechanic without more than normal supervision. (Screen Out Element)
• Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair and use and ability to use maintain tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of technical practices associated with the small engine mechanic trade.
• Ability to interpret instructions and specifications and troubleshoot small engine equipment.

Conditions of Employment Continued:
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching on concrete surfaces. Frequently lifts, handles, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, they may lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds with the aid of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers.
Working Conditions: Usually works indoors on concrete surfaces bay area, exposed to drafts, noise, and auto fumes. Continually exposed to dirt, dust, grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. Occasionally works outside under adverse weather conditions. Required to follow prescribed safety procedures and may be required to use safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and respirators.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
