Job description

Find your calling at Mercy!As a Patient Services Specialist supporting the Mercy Sleep Center, you will play a key role in ensuring smooth and efficient patient access. Core responsibilities include completing prior authorizations, managing preregistration tasks, and coordinating patient scheduling for diagnostic sleep studies and neurodiagnostic procedures.Position Details:Patient Services Specialist - Mercy South Sleep Center

Location: 10012 Kennerly Road, Suite 204 St. Louis, MO 63128

Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week

Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Skills, Knowledge Abilities:
Proficiency in computers, typing and Microsoft Office.
Knowledgeable in practices involving patient scheduling/pre-authorization/pre-certification/referral process and coordination of other services related to insurance verification.
Basic knowledge of self-pay collections, medical terminology, ICD10, and/or a functional understanding of insurance is preferred.
Requires excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a complex environment with varying points of view.
Must be comfortable with ambiguity, exhibit good decision making and judgment capabilities, attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and can interact on a professional level with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Experience:
2 years combined experience in prior authorization and scheduling.
Knowledge of and experience using an Epic RC/EMR system is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and register patients; verify identity and manage checkin/checkout

  • Answer phones and perform clerical tasks including Epic charting, scanning, faxing, and document handling

  • Schedule appointments, procedures, and testing; provide timely estimates and Good Faith Estimates

  • Monitor provider schedules, communicate delays, and coordinate with staff to ensure efficient clinic flow

  • Maintain accurate registration, EHRs, and assigned work queues

  • Handle patient concerns professionally and escalate as needed

  • Manage daily cash drawer, accounts receivable tasks, and payment plans

  • Support EPIC updates, departmental initiatives, and clinic communications

  • Maintain a safe, clean reception area and adhere to safety, privacy, and infection control policies

  • Perform other duties as assigned
