Responsibilities

Schedule:

Monday - Friday 0600-1630. 8.5 - 9 hour shifts

No Holidays, No on call, or Weekends!

HCW may move between the Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Branch Health Clinic MCAS Miramar either weekly or more frequently.

Core Duties:

  • Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.

  • Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.

  • Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.

  • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physical, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling. Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.

  • Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.

Specific Duties for Physician Sleep Medicine:

  • The contractor shall work directly with Lead Sleep technologist and provide input on quality control measures.

  • The contractor may assume direct or indirect role in DHA/BUMED Tele-Sleep Services if available.

  • Clinical Practice: In an outpatient clinic the incumbent performs a wide range of medical duties covering all aspects of disorders involving Sleep and Pulmonary Medicine.

  • Must be able to screen patients with sleep disorders that might have multiple overlapping problems such as insufficient sleep, obstructive sleep apnea, upper airway resistance syndrome, insomnia, central sleep apnea, Cheyne Stokes Respirations, parasomnias, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movements of sleep, depression, idiopathic CNS hypersomnolence, nocturnal hypoxia related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or interstitial lung disease, degenerative neurologic conditions requiring nocturnal ventilation, delayed sleep phase syndrome, jet lag syndrome, and the effects of other chronic medical conditions on sleep .

  • Examines patients, orders and evaluates the full range of tests to include polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing, actigraphy, sleep diaries, unattended sleep studies, appropriate radiographic, pulmonary function testing and laboratory testing when indicated in patients when diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, interstitial lung disease, hypothyroidism, gastroesophageal reflux or pain syndromes are affecting sleep.

  • Makes diagnosis's and prescribes appropriate treatments to include continuous positive airway pressure, bi-level airway pressure, oxygen, drugs or behavioral Makes referrals to the appropriate

  • Communicates with patients, referring physicians and back to the appropriate primary care manager for management of disorders outside the specialty of Sleep Medicine.

  • Provides prescription renewal and telephone consultative

  • Provides recommendations or definitive evaluation for sleep medicine and breathing related disorders in the referral region through phone consultation, tele-medicine, and authorization and evaluation of air evacuation patients as appropriate.

  • Periodically provides episodic care to clinic patients on a walk-in

  • The contractor will be responsible for using the electronic record for consults located in MHS GENESIS.

  • Ability to demonstrate a full working knowledge of electronic data retrieval in the NMRTC SD within 6 months

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).

  • Education: Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.

  • Certification: The DoD only recognizes certifications issued by boards that are members of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists

  • Internship/Residency/Fellowship: Completion of an accredited residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

  • Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the credentialing instructions.

  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of California.

  • Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.

Additional Qualifications for Physician Sleep Medicine - Pulmonary Clinic

  • Enrolled in Xyway and Xyrem REMS to be able to prescribe Xyrem to eligible patients.

  • Possess a valid driver's license and personal vehicle for use under the contract.

Pay Scale: $318,000 - $329,000 annually to be determined based on employment options (W2/1099), qualifications, experience, and location.
