Job description
Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FLorida (FL) office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 5+ years experience to join their Power Delivery team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and renewable energy sectors, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
- Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for power delivery or generation projects
- Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
- Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards
- Studies performed may include (per candidate experience):
- Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM
- Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis
- Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP
- Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat
- Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, or PSLF
- Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software
- Relay setting development using SEL AcSELerator
- Partner with the electrical team to create calculations anddrawings for power delivery and/or renewable energy projects
- Continually gain knowledge in industry
Qualifications
- 5+ years' experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
- Project management experience preferred
- PE certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
- CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred
- Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
- General understanding of engineering and energy systems
- Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
- Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
- The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
