SPA provides timely, objective, analytic assessments that integrate technical, operational, programmatic, policy and business analysis to a variety of Government acquisition offices. These offices span throughout the Department of Defense to include major defense programs and new weapon technology development programs. Analysts and Engineers supporting these programs would continue SPA's decades of support to high-profile, major acquisition programs.
At SPA, we are committed to our nation's Military and Veterans through our partnership with Hiring Our Heroes, providing an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual fellowship. The fellowship is open to all ranks and experience levels.
During this program, the service member will be on-site performing an individual externship in a mid to mid to senior-level career-type role. The service member will be receiving on the job training, supporting a work schedule equivalent to 32 hours per week. The program provides a comprehensive fellowship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on our leadership principles, company history, stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities. Our goal is to provide qualified individuals with a full-time offer at the conclusion of the Skillbridge Externship program.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to provide advanced analytical support shadowing SPA customers in the national security and homeland defense mission spaces to make better decisions. The candidate will be able to formulate the problem, construct a model, and derive a solution using qualitative and quantitative methods. When necessary, the candidate may perform validation and verification on other performers work to ensure accuracy. The candidate will be able approach a problem from both a data-centric and decision-centric conceptual framework, apply descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics. Operations Research is a very broad discipline and expertise is difficult to achieve in every facet of the field. A successful candidate may not know everything but has an inquisitive mind, desire to broaden his/her skills, and is open to new, challenging problems that may stretch him/her to achieve success. Our goal is to provide you with a full-time offer once you have successfully completed your Skillbridge Externship.
Qualifications
Must be an active participant in the Hiring our Heroes Skillbridge Fellowship to be considered for the Externship.
Required Qualifications
  • Junior:
    • Bachelor's degree in a field that involves quantitative analysis.
    • Up to 5 years of professional experience
  • Mid:
    • Bachelor's degree in a field that involves quantitative analysis.
    • 5-15 years of professional experience.
  • Senior:
    • Master's degree in a field that involves quantitative analysis.
    • 15+ years of professional experience.
  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience working as part of a team to solve a problem
  • Experience is using a repeatable, transparent analytical process from problem formulation to an optimal solution

Desired Qualifications:
  • Top Secret Clearance
  • Expertise briefing senior leaders to make decisions
  • Expertise with at least one coding language like R, Python, VBA.
  • Expertise in data visualization that goes beyond standard pie charts. Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI or other data visualization software that can integrate disparate data sources and turn messy data into an easy to understand visualization that a decision maker wants in front of him/her to aid in decision making.
  • Experience working with a government agency and experience using methodologies that support technology and investment decisions to improve national security mission success.
