Position Summary
The Ice Rink Operator will operate Mullins Center's Zamboni ice resurfacing machines, and perform janitorial tasks before, during, and after the events booked on the two ice sheets at the Mullins Center and Mullins Center Community Ice Rink.
This role will pay an hourly rate of $17.00-$18.00

This position will remain open until June 26, 2026.
About the Venue
This position is based at our Mullins Center and Mullins Center Community Ice Rink. The William D. Mullins Memorial Center, also known as the Mullins Center, is a 9,493-seat multi-purpose arena (10,500 for 360 concerts), located on the campus of the University of Massachusetts, in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The Mullins Center is the home of UMass Minutemen men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's ice hockey. In addition, the venue hosts numerous concerts, family shows, theater shows, and commencements annually. Adjacently located is the Mullins Community Ice Rink, which is open year round and offers public skating, ice hockey, figure skating, and private party events.
Responsibilities
  • Operate Zamboni Ice Resurfacer and other ice maintenance equipment in a skilled and safe manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining a quality Ice Sheet during events in a punctual manner.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the Rink on time and according to schedule.
  • Perform cleaning janitorial duties around the Community Ice Rink. Keeping the Lobbies, Locker rooms clean and sanitary, restocking paper supplies, and removing trash.
  • Deal knowledgably, pleasantly and professionally with the general public in person, develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Ice Rink including schedule, prices, procedures, and programs offered.
  • Support all safety rules and be aware of patrons at all times to maintain a safe experience.
  • Provide coverage as an Attendant for skate rental room, skate guard for public skates, receptionist for point of sale and customer service as needed.
  • Work without supervision and handle time-sensitive, stressful situations in a calm manner.
  • Assist with UMass hockey game day ice operations.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Previous experience operating ice resurfacers is ideal, but experience is not required.
  • Must be able to work flexible shift/schedule. Weekend availability is required.
  • Must be punctual and organized, must be able to follow procedures.
  • Skating experience a plus.
  • Experience with point of sale cash handling is a plus, but not required.
