What is a skate?

Skate jobs typically refer to roles within the skateboarding industry, which can range from professional skateboarders to positions in skate shops, skate park management, event organization, and product design. These jobs involve promoting, selling, designing, or teaching skateboarding. Some roles may require specific skills, such as knowledge of skateboarding techniques, marketing, or retail experience. Working in this field can be both rewarding and challenging, especially if you have a passion for skate culture. Opportunities can be found at local skate shops, major skate brands, or by participating in skateboarding events.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a skate instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Skate Instructor, you generally need strong skating proficiency, knowledge of safety practices, and experience in teaching or coaching. Job description

Do you love skating, working with kids, and helping people discover just how much fun the ice can be? Come skate with us!
We're looking for enthusiastic, patient, and encouraging Learn to Skate Instructors to introduce skaters of all ages and abilities to the ice.
From those first wobbly steps to confident glides, stops, and crossovers, you'll help create a safe, positive, and FUN first experience on the ice-and maybe inspire a lifelong love of skating along the way!
Your Mission: Teach, Encourage & Make Skating Fun!
As a Learn to Skate Instructor, you'll lead group lessons using the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, helping participants build skills and confidence at their own pace.
A great instructor knows that sometimes the biggest win isn't a perfect crossover-it's helping a nervous skater get back up, try again, and leave the rink smiling!
On the Ice
  • Teach structured group lessons following the Learn to Skate USA curriculum
  • Lead warm-ups, skill progressions, activities, and games appropriate for each level
  • Demonstrate basic skating skills such as glides, swizzles, stops, and crossovers
  • Keep skaters safe while encouraging proper technique and good sportsmanship
  • Provide positive, individual feedback to help each skater improve
  • Track skill development and assist with evaluations and level testing
  • Create an environment where skaters feel comfortable, encouraged, and excited to learn

Beyond the Ice
  • Help with registration, check-in, and class assignments
  • Communicate with parents and participants about progress, levels, and next steps
  • Assist with lesson planning and program organization
  • Help with special events, exhibitions, and ice shows
  • Assist with rink setup and cleanup before and after classes
  • Work alongside other instructors and arena staff to create an awesome skating experience

You Might Be a Great Fit If You...
  • Have strong skating skills and are comfortable demonstrating basic skating elements
  • Have a figure skating or hockey background
  • Enjoy working with children and helping them learn new skills
  • Have teaching, coaching, mentoring, or instructor experience - a big plus
  • Bring a friendly, energetic, patient, and positive attitude to the rink
  • Communicate well with both children and adults
  • Are dependable, punctual, and prepared for each class
  • Are available to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Have prior skating instructor or assistant experience - preferred
  • Have a background in skating performance or competition - a plus, but not required

Why You'll Love Being Part of Our Team
  • Share Your Love of Skating: Help new skaters discover the confidence and excitement that comes with learning to skate.
  • Make an Impact: You get a front-row seat to those unforgettable "I DID IT!" moments.
  • Great Team: Work alongside a collaborative and supportive group of skating and arena professionals.
  • Learn & Grow: Develop your teaching and coaching skills while gaining valuable experience.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Evening and weekend opportunities can work well around school, another job, or your own skating schedule.
  • Have Fun at Work: Games, smiles, high-fives, and time on the ice? Not a bad way to spend a shift!

Ready to Help Someone Take Their First Glide?
If you're a confident skater who is patient, positive, and excited to help others succeed, we'd love to have you on our team.
