POSITION SUMMARY:

The Skate Guard will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all visitors at the ice rink and will play a crucial role in maintaining a fun and safe environment for guests of all ages and skill levels.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Actively monitor the ice and remind skaters to follow all safety guidelines and rink rules
  • Address any unsafe behavior by skaters
  • Assist skaters including beginners requiring guidance or individuals who have fallen and need assistance getting up
  • Educate skaters about rink rules and encourage compliance to maintain a safe environment
  • Assist skaters in the use of appropriate gear such as helmets and skates
  • Respond to and notify management of any incidents, accidents, injuries, and altercations
  • Provide basic first aid in case of minor injuries
  • Alert management and assist with emergency situations as needed
  • Assist with special events, including set-up, monitoring, and clean-up as required
  • Provide courteous and friendly service to all guests and staff
  • Be knowledgeable about the facility, prices, services, promotions, and events
  • Know and enforce the facility's policies, procedures, and rules
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the ice and surrounding area
  • Report any maintenance issues to the management team
  • Assist other departments as necessary
  • Complete special projects, daily assignments, and other duties as directed by management
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:
  • 2-4 years of experience in the Sports/Recreation field
  • Strong eye for detail and safety compliance
  • Experience in coaching or mentoring athletes or children
  • Proven success in being a quality team member
  • Experience and success in customer service, leadership, and organization
  • Action-oriented personality with a 'get it done' attitude and proficiency for efficiency
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • First-Aid/CPR certification
  • Can work with a wide variety of age groups
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Must have excellent guest service skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in difficult and stressful situations
  • Must be respectful and friendly to our athletes, guests, visitors, spectators, leaders, and fellow Team Members
  • Must work well with others
  • Must take personal initiative for the betterment of the team and facility
  • Previous experience as a Skate Guard or in a similar role is preferred
  • Have sports experience or an interest to learn
  • Must be able to work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, holidays based on facility schedules
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop, or bend into awkward positions while performing job functions
  • Facility has intermittent noise
  • Must be able to skate for extended periods
  • Must be able to walk intermittently
  • Must be able to work in cold environments for prolonged periods of time
