Job description

Description:
  • The Substitute Teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities, instruction, and supervision by implementing the lesson plans as directed by the absent teacher, Principal, Guest Teacher Concierge, or other District personnel.

Job Summary:
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the absent teacher or designated staff and any special duties assigned (bus duty, hall duty, lunch/recess duty, etc.)
  • Follow lesson plans and daily responsibilities of the absent employee to ensure continuity for student learning, routines, and rotations.
  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in assigned subject area(s).
  • Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to the lesson plans.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curriculum for students as needed or noted in lesson plans.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements where needed.
  • May need to cover other classes periods during conference period.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of Stanton ISD online Substitute Teacher application 
  • Clear background checks and complete fingerprint requirements
  • Complete all new hire documents 
  • Attend substitute training session

Working Conditions:
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent interruptions and exposure to noise
  • Exposure to bacteria, common cold symptoms, and/or communicable diseases
  • Prolonged use of instructional equipment and computers with repetitive hand motions
  • Frequent walking with moderate sitting, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Able to move stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment
  • Strength and mobility needed to assist students which may include lifting or intervening with challenging behaviors situations
  • Able to manage behavior through appropriate and safe techniques as per Board and District policy, regulations, and procedures
  • Must be able to access and navigate areas of the school associated with teaching assignment selected and assigned
  • Work primarily inside, may work outside
  • Flexibility with schedule assignment changes
  • Attendance and punctuality per the assigned work schedule are essential functions of the job
