What is a simulation product manager?

A Simulation Product Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the development, launch, and improvement of simulation software products or platforms. They work at the intersection of technology, business, and user experience, ensuring that the simulation products meet market needs and align with company goals. Their duties often include defining product vision, gathering customer requirements, collaborating with engineering and design teams, and managing the product lifecycle from conception to release and beyond. Simulation Product Managers may work in industries such as engineering, healthcare, defense, or education, wherever realistic digital simulations are needed.

How does a simulation product manager typically collaborate with engineering and sales teams during the product development lifecycle?

Simulation Product Managers play a central role in bridging the gap between technical and commercial teams. They regularly work with engineering to define product requirements, prioritize feature development, and ensure that simulation tools meet customer needs. Additionally, they collaborate with sales and marketing teams to understand customer feedback, support product launches, and provide technical expertise during client engagements. Effective communication and cross-functional teamwork are essential to ensure that both the product’s technical quality and market relevance are maintained throughout development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a simulation product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Simulation Product Manager, you need a solid background in product management, domain expertise in simulation technologies, and a relevant degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with simulation software (like MATLAB, Simulink, or Unity), Agile methodologies, and product lifecycle management tools is typically required, along with certifications such as PMP or Agile Scrum Master being advantageous. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills enable you to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These skills are crucial for guiding product strategy, ensuring technical feasibility, and delivering high-value simulation solutions that meet user needs.

  • Improve, standardize, and monitor end‑to‑end documentation processes across planning, authoring, review, localization, and publication.

  • Refine resourcing and load‑balancing models; strengthen cross‑product collaboration and capacity planning.

  • Assist with management of budget, vendor partnerships, and technology investments

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical), Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field.

  • 5+ years professional experience building, validating, and using CAE models to make engineering product design decisions.

  • 5+ years of experience managing global teams and developing leaders in a multi‑level organization focused on technical documentation or similar customer‑focused roles.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, influence senior stakeholders, and build high‑performing teams.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and cross‑functional communication skills.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience managing technical communication, customer success, curriculum development, or similar teams.

  • Experience with AI‑driven content technologies such as retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, or automated content grounding.

  • Experience with structured authoring, taxonomy design, or metadata governance for technical content.

  • Familiarity with content pipelines (CCMS, doc‑as‑code, CI/CD), API documentation, or large‑scale HTML/PDF publishing.
