What is a simulation manager?

Simulation Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based training and educational programs. They often work in fields such as healthcare, aviation, or engineering, managing simulation labs, coordinating scenarios, and ensuring equipment and technology are maintained. Their duties include supervising staff, developing curricula, and ensuring that simulation activities meet organizational and accreditation standards. Simulation Managers play a key role in enhancing training outcomes by providing realistic and effective learning experiences.

How does a simulation manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a project environment?

Simulation Managers often work closely with engineering, design, and project management teams to ensure that simulation models accurately reflect real-world scenarios. They facilitate regular meetings to gather requirements, validate data inputs, and communicate simulation results to stakeholders. Effective collaboration involves translating technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical team members, helping guide decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to ensure alignment across all involved departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a simulation manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Simulation Manager, you need expertise in simulation-based training, project management, and a relevant degree such as in healthcare, engineering, or education. Familiarity with simulation software (e.g., Laerdal, CAE), audiovisual systems, and potentially certifications like Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) is important. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help in coordinating teams and delivering effective training experiences. These skills ensure the successful implementation and management of simulation programs that enhance learning outcomes and operational efficiency.

Located onsite in Tucson, AZ, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this innovative program. This position is onsite based in Tucson, Arizona.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the PASS IPT in developing and maintaining a robust program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) that aligns with program objectives.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of performance analysis software, simulation models, and tools to predict and validate missile functionality.
  • Utilize Earned Value Management System (EVMS) methodologies to track and manage the program's scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Participate on the Phase 2 contract proposal team as the lead for PASS task scope, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives.
  • Build and lead a multi-layer team organization with delegated sub-IPTLs and/or Control Account Managers (CAMs) to ensure effective oversight and execution.
  • Serve as a key member of the SLCM-N senior program leadership team, contributing to leadership decision-making and strategic program direction.
  • Collaborate with the program Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) to prioritize technical and execution needs, maintaining alignment with program and customer goals.
  • Serve as the primary customer interface for all PASS IPT scope, building and maintaining strong relationships with Navy program office counterparts.
  • Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and career growth guidance to team leads, fostering a culture of accountability and leadership development across the IPT.
  • Ensure Estimate at Complete (EAC) and Latest Revised Estimate (LRE) development and sign-off for the PASS IPT scope.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience leading teams in software development, performance analysis, modeling, and simulation for complex systems.
  • Experience managing resources with multi-million-dollar annual budgets.
  • Ability to achieve Raytheon PM Certification Level 4 within one year of hire.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued SECRET security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in leading and executing the design and development of performance simulation environments for missile or defense systems.
  • Leadership experience on efforts where EVMS and Agile execution methodologies were used in tandem.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence stakeholders, including the Department of Defense (DoD), commercial customers, and non-traditional customer sets.
