Job description

Wildland Fire Paramedic

The position of Wildland Fire Paramedic is a seasonal position operating under the Emergency Response Division and will provide medical standby service during the wildland fire season. The seasonal provider will accept 14-day deployments, when requested, and may be asked to be extended. The provider will be issued a 4x4 vehicle or ambulance, medical equipment, and fire line PPE (with the exception of footwear) and will report to the Incident Command for assignment.

Pay Range: $33.50 - $40.00 per hour, based on experience

Work Schedule: Standard deployments are 14 days with the possibility of extensions; 16-hour workdays

This job deploys out of Bozeman, Montana and Reno, Nevada

What You Will Do

Regular Job Duties

Under the supervision of EMS Response, you are responsible for:

  • Medical response to fire line, overhead personnel & general public if needed
  • Practice medicine in austere environment
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Emergency Response Division or Medic Unit Leader

Constantly: Adverse weather, high risk environments in both day and night conditions.

Physical Requirements

Frequently: This position will require standing, walking, hiking for long periods of time, bending, as well as using fine motor skills. Must be able to carry items weighing up to 50 points and lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Cognitive/Psychosocial/Mental Requirements

Occasionally: Analyzing, judgment.

Frequently: Memorization, perception/computation, problem solving, simple and complex reasoning. Must be able to speak clearly in all size group settings.

Constantly: Ability to follow simple and complex written and verbal instructions. Ability to read, speak, and understand English.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ Months Paramedic experience
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • AHA BLS
  • EMS State License
  • CS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • S-190, S-130, L-180, RT-130
  • Arduous Pack Test
  • Current DOT physical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ seasons of experience on Wildland Fire
