Job Summary:
Operate CNC machines that cut, shape, drill, bore, thread, or face metal workpieces according to specifications. Capable of operating engine lathes and boring mills.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Daily lifts workpiece and positions and secures workpiece between lathe centers, in chuck, or in holding fixture, or positions workpiece in automatic loading mechanism.
  • Daily observes machining operation to detect malfunction or excessive tool wear.
  • Daily verifies that machined workpiece conforms to specifications.
  • Daily changes worn tools. Machines plastic or other nonmetallic materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training.
Independent Action:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Working Conditions:
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
