What is a signing bonus?

A signing bonus is a one-time payment offered to a new employee as an incentive to accept a job offer. Employers use signing bonuses to attract top talent, fill urgent vacancies, or compensate for benefits or salary limitations. The amount and terms of a signing bonus can vary by company and position, and it is typically paid shortly after the employee starts their new role. Sometimes, the bonus may come with conditions, such as staying with the company for a certain period.

How does a signing bonus impact my overall compensation package and what should I consider before accepting one?

A signing bonus is a one-time payment offered to new hires as an incentive to join a company, often used to attract top talent or compensate for benefits you may be leaving behind at your current job. While it can be a valuable addition to your initial earnings, it's important to assess how it fits into your total compensationβ€”consider if it is contingent on staying for a specific period and whether it offsets a lower base salary or fewer benefits. Be aware that if you leave the company before a set timeframe, you may be required to repay part or all of the bonus. Always review the terms of the signing bonus in your offer letter and weigh it alongside other aspects of the compensation package.

•     401(k) retirement plan
•     Paid time off

•     Flexible scheduling, full-time or part-time
•     Generous discounts on spa services and products
•     A back-of-house built for therapists — a large, beautifully designed staff lounge with a full kitchen and a private room to rest and reset between services
•     Garage parking
•     A brand-new luxury Spa with new equipment and treatment rooms

Be Part of Something New on Chicago’s North Shore

Woodhouse Spa is a high-end luxury day spa national brand with more than 100 locations across the country — and we’re bringing it to the North Shore for the first time. As one of our founding Massage Therapists, you’ll help set the standard for what “Woodhouse Highland Park” means: brand-new treatment rooms, brand-new equipment, and a guest following you help build from day one.
•     The owners: work in the spa day to day as true partners, not a distant corporate office.
•     Established national brand: you get its marketing muscle, training systems, protocols, and reputation — the things that keep your table full.
•     First-mover opportunity — be one of the founding therapists at the first Woodhouse on the North Shore, and expand your book of business from the very first guest.

What You’ll Do — The Craft

•     Perform customized massage services and luxurious body treatments to Woodhouse protocols
•     Deliver a variety of modalities, including deep tissue, hot stone massage, couples, and maternity.
•     Guide guests through the service menu and help them choose the treatments that meet their true needs
•     Obtain a detailed guest health history and maintain strict confidentiality
•     Use body mechanics that protect your wrists, hands, and body as well as the guest’s — we’re building long careers here, not short ones
•     Ensure guests have a consistent, phenomenal, high-touch concierge experience from greeting to rebooking

Keep the Space Guest-Ready

•     Keep treatment rooms and service areas clean and sanitized using approved products and procedures
•     Maintain proper inventory and stock in treatment rooms
•     Remove soiled laundry and assist with laundry
•     Assist with opening and closing duties

Be Part of the Founding Team

•     Be a steward of the Woodhouse brand and Woodhouse standards
•     Cross-train and perform Team Member services as part of ongoing education
•     Welcome training on new procedures and protocols as the menu grows
•     Work well with fellow Team Members and managers, and set the tone for the therapists who follow you
What We’re Looking For
•     Current Illinois massage therapy license (IDFPR) — required, and maintained in good standing per state rules and regulations
•     Luxury spa experience a strong plus
•     Enthusiastic and passionate about your craft
•     Excellent verbal communication — able to connect with guests, managers, and team members
•     Ability to exercise sound judgment based on job knowledge and awareness of company goals
•     Regular, consistent attendance, and the flexibility to work weekend and holidays.

Physical Requirements

•     Must be able to be on your feet for most of the day
•     Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
•     Must be able to perform multiple services during a shift
Must comply with all company policies and procedures. Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned.
