Director of Business Transformation

Regular Full-Time

Headquarters: Tuscaloosa, AL, US

Director of Business Transformation

About Westervelt

At The Westervelt Company, stewardship is at the heart of everything we do, from responsibly managing natural resources to building a workplace where our people can grow and thrive. For over 140 years, we’ve balanced a legacy of sustainability with a forward-looking commitment to innovation, safety, quality, and community. We are proud of our heritage and excited about our future, and we invite you to be part of the Westervelt Experience.

About the Role

The Director of Business Transformation will drive the end-to-end evolution of Westervelt’s operating model. In this role, you will lead a dual mandate: sustaining and elevating our strong Continuous Improvement (CI) program to optimize current operations, while building an AI Center of Excellence (CoE) to propel future innovation.

This position requires a strategic, innovative leader with a “builder’s mindset” who moves beyond pilots and experiments to deliver production-ready solutions that improve efficiency, margin, and decision quality across the enterprise. Ultimately, this leader ensures transformation is systematic and durable: converting strategy into execution, experimental concepts into competitive advantage, and continuous improvement into a lasting culture.

Key Responsibilities & Outcomes

Strategic Transformation

Outcome: A disciplined, multi-year transformation roadmap that converts process waste and high-value automation opportunities into measurable gains.

  • Define and execute a unified CI + AI transformation roadmap that balances near-term process wins with longer-term AI-driven innovation
  • Govern a unified portfolio of CI and AI initiatives aligned to enterprise KPIs (cycle time, margin, ROI, etc.)
  • Systematically identify process waste and high-impact automation opportunities

AI Center of Excellence (CoE) Leadership

Outcome: Scaled enterprise value through governed, ROI-backed AI innovation

  • Identify and prioritize high-impact AI use cases and translate them into well defined business cases with measurable ROI
  • Establish an enterprise framework for ethical and secure AI use, including guidelines for bias mitigation, data privacy, and compliance to build trust in new technologies
  • Design human-AI workflows that elevate productivity, decision quality and daily productivity

Continuous Improvement (CI) & Process Innovation

Outcome: Sustained operational performance and embedded efficiency

  • Lead the application of Lean, Six Sigma, and value stream mapping initiatives to eliminate inefficiencies
  • Partner with business units to redesign core workflows and standard operating procedures, embedding automation and AI into the “DNA” of daily operations
  • Define, track, and sustain performance metrics (first-pass yield, customer satisfaction, etc.) to ensure realized benefits are sustained

Change Management & Culture

Outcome: An AI-literate, data-driven organization with strong adoption of new tools and processes

  • Drive adoption by building AI literacy, aligning leadership, and translating technical concepts into clear business outcomes
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear actionable business narratives
  • Act as a trusted advisor to VP and C-suite leaders to align stakeholders and champion the transformation vision; use transparent communication to proactively address concerns, build buy-in, and foster trust, to accelerate the adoption of new processes and technologies

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is highly desired
  • 10+ years in business transformation, operational excellence, or strategy consulting, with a track record of delivering measurable enterprise impact
  • Expert knowledge of process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) and experience leading large-scale continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies, especially AI/Machine Learning applications, agentic workflows, and LLMs
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a strong executive presence and ability to drive change through influence across all functions and levels
  • Strategic, innovative, and adaptable problem solver with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Results oriented, with a passion for continuous improvement and a commitment to delivering tangible business outcomes
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, forestry, or similar industry sectors is a plus

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
  • Professional development and continuing education support
  • Life insurance, disability coverage, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Equal Opportunity Employer: Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran/Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation
