Automation & Control Systems Engineer

Job Description

Indra is seeking a talented Automation & Control Systems Engineer (VA Implementation) to join our team in Kansas. In this role, you will support the implementation, integration, and optimization of advanced automation solutions within a high-impact industrial environment. As part of a global engineering team, this position will serve as the operational technical support resource, collaborating closely with teams in Spain to deploy, troubleshoot, and improve automated production systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in industrial control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, MES/APS platforms, and/or related automation technologies. While expertise across all areas is not required, candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience or working knowledge in at least one or two of these areas, with familiarity in Siemens automation technologies being a key requirement.

Key Responsibilities

• Program, configure, troubleshoot, and support PLC-based automation systems (Siemens preferred)

• Support integration of industrial control systems into production lines and manufacturing operations

• Interface with SCADA systems, MES/APS platforms, vision systems, and other industrial automation technologies

• Participate in system commissioning, testing, validation, and optimization activities

• Troubleshoot and resolve automation, controls, and production system issues in a fast-paced industrial environment

• Support communication between U.S. operations and global engineering teams to ensure successful implementation and system performance

• Assist with data collection, system monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and training materials

• Provide operational support and knowledge transfer to plant personnel and internal teams

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in Automation, Controls Engineering, Robotics, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field

• Minimum 3+ years of experience supporting industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing systems

Hands-on experience or strong working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • SCADA systems
  • MES/APS manufacturing software platforms

Industrial control systems integration

• Experience with Siemens automation technologies is required (Siemens PLCs, TIA Portal, or related Siemens platforms preferred)

• Experience commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimizing industrial automation systems

• Familiarity with production environments, manufacturing processes, and automated equipment

• Ability to analyze technical issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions

• Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and global teams

• Ability to work independently in fast-paced, high-reliability environments

• U.S. Citizenship required due to government/defense project work

• Active passport required for international training and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multiple industrial automation disciplines (PLC, SCADA, MES/APS)

• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP)

• Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), motion control, or industrial robotics

• Experience with automated inspection, machine vision, or manufacturing execution systems

• Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal and Siemens industrial automation ecosystem

• Spanish language skills
