Job Summary/Basic Function
The primary responsibility of this temporary position is to provide supplemental instruction to students in Bay College's welding program at Iron Mountain Campus. Specifically, the SI leader will support students in MATH 102-Intro to Technical Math.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an internationally recognized academic support program that targets traditionally difficult courses. Students come together in regularly scheduled study sessions to compare notes, discuss course materials, develop creative study tools, practice problem solving and prepare for exams. These sessions are facilitated by trained SI Leaders that attend the course with students and prepare study materials for use during SI sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in MATH 102-Intro to Tech Math or comparable courses.
• Completed the equivalent of two years of college course work.
• Strong foundation in math.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Tutoring experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in Supplemental Instruction.
• Teaching experience.

Work Schedule
The SI leader must be available to attend lecture and hold SI sessions at the following times:SI class - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:20 PM; Lecture: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-3:20 PM; Office Hours: 3 office hours per week.

Advertise SI to students.

Take attendance at each SI session and report weekly attendance to the instructor and semester attendance to the SI Manager.

Create a comfortable and supportive learning environment during the SI sessions.

Teach study skills and use collaborative learning techniques to help students master course material.

Administer and record data for SI evaluation surveys.

Mentor and advise students on ancillary topics such as referring them to other needed support services available within the college.

Attend regular training sessions provided by college staff.

Provide services to students utilizing the Student Success Center during office hours.
