Overview

American Cruise Lines, the largest USA-flagged cruise line operating in the United States, is seeking Cruise Directors for the 2026 season. Our fleet includes newly constructed vessels designed to provide a small-ship experience. The Cruise Director leads guest-facing entertainment and activities, coordinating entertainment programs, presentations, and guest interactions, and reports to the Hotel Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule and execute engaging entertainment, enrichment and activity programs that enhance and elevate the guest experience.
  • Communicate to guests through the shipboard daily program, television, stage, public address system, and one-on-one interaction.
  • Socialize with guests during meals, cocktail hours, and other opportunities to engage guests.
  • Greet guests as they depart for and return from shore excursions.
  • Deliver daily noon announcements and serve as the voice of the cruise for PA announcements.
  • Meet with Excursions Director, Guest Speakers, Guest Instructors, and Resident Entertainers at the start of each cruise to review scheduling.
  • Create the daily Ship to Shore content and host Officer Introductions and Excursion Briefings.
  • Assist in delivering Safety Briefings with the Captain.
  • Ensure lounges are prepared for activities, events, presentations and shows (lounge configuration, A/V needs, etc.).
  • Confirm entertainers 48 hours in advance and assist with their A/V needs.
  • Create and update bulletin boards daily.
  • Work with the Excursions Director to prepare folders and materials for turnaround day.
  • Represent the company at pre-cruise hotels on turnaround day.
  • Promote onboard sales and brand loyalty by hosting re-booking events.
  • Oversee VIP guest service delivery and report status to the Home Office as to cruise status, guest issues, and evaluations of speakers and entertainers.
  • Perform bartending duties as needed with other management personnel.
Qualifications
  • Cruise ship experience preferred; upscale hotel/resort experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Extremely polished speaking/presentation skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills; strong critical thinking and production/presentation sense.
  • Basic knowledge of audio/visual equipment.
  • Enthusiastic, outgoing, confident with a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.

Work Schedule
  • 7 days per week while onboard the ship.
  • 6 to 8 weeks onboard with 1 to 2 weeks off; full-time exempt position.
Essential Functions
  • Live and work in an environment subject to motion with ship motions: surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch, and yaw.
  • Ability to work around 12 hours per day.
  • Assist in onboard emergencies by climbing ladders and passing through 20-inch diameter hatches.
  • Stand for extended periods and frequently lift up to 20 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.; bend, squat, and reach as needed.
  • Live and work on board a vessel for extended periods and use stairs frequently.
