Job description

Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Shopify Architect with deep expertise in backend engineering and microservices architecture to design, develop, and optimize scalable e-commerce solutions. This role is critical for organizations looking to modernize their Shopify ecosystem, integrate with third-party systems, and support high-growth, high-traffic environments. You will lead architectural decisions, mentor development teams, and ensure the delivery of robust, high-performance Shopify platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement scalable Shopify solutions, focusing on backend systems and microservices to ensure optimal performance, security, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions, considering both current needs and future scalability.
• Design and oversee the integration of Shopify with external systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, payment gateways) using RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Lead the transition from monolithic architectures to modular or microservices-based approaches, promoting independent, loosely coupled services.
• Conduct deep technical audits of existing Shopify implementations, identifying areas for optimization and modernization.
• Guide, mentor, and manage backend engineers, enforcing best practices in code quality, documentation, and DevOps processes.
• Stay current with Shopify platform updates, headless commerce trends, and emerging technologies in e-commerce and cloud infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of e-commerce systems.
• Regularly conduct code reviews and maintain high coding standards across the team.
Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience (Java or Python), with at least 2 years focused on Shopify or e-commerce platforms.
• Proven experience architecting and implementing microservices in a production environment, with a strong grasp of service boundaries, API design, and distributed systems.
• Proficiency with backend programming languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, or Java.
• Deep understanding of Shopify APIs (REST and GraphQL), Shopify Plus, and custom/private app development.
• Experience with headless Shopify architecture and integrating with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js).
• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and monitoring tools.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience leading migrations from monolithic to microservices or modular monolith architectures in e-commerce.
• Knowledge of e-commerce best practices, security, and compliance standards.
• Background in mentoring and managing technical teams.
