Job description

Branch Civil is searching for a Mechanic Helper to join our well-established, growing company.  The Mechanic Helper assist in the necessary set-up, adjustments, maintenance, repair and welding of equipment.  Operates any equipment unity on a temporary basis for operating adjustments.    

Essential Functions: 

  • Welding and burning equipment; and Operation of lathes, saws, shapers, girders, and presses 

  • Will gain knowledge in the following areas: Lubrication, Paint & Body, Injector-Governor, Water-cooled engine rebuild, Transmissions and rear-ends, Air-cooled engines, Starters, generators, and voltage regulars 

  • In the shop, assist in the repair and overhaul of the various heavy equipment, including crawler and portable cranes, crawler and wheel tractors, booms, front-end loaders, rollers, subgrade mixers, motor graders, compactors, pumps, and air compressors 

  • Make the repairs necessary in the field and perform preventive maintenance practices necessary to increase service life of the equipment. 

  • May perform other related duties including building and grounds maintenance. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Knowledge of construction techniques  

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations 

  • DOT experience preferred, but not required 

  • Good driving MVR 

Compensation

Salary Min: $28,413
Salary Max: $47,355
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. 

Work Environment 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. 

Physical Demands 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
