The City of La Vista is seeking a skilled and motivated Shop Supervisor to lead operations within its Public Works Shop. This position oversees the maintenance and repair of the City's fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment while managing the shop's activities and team. See the attached job description for full details on responsibilities and qualifications.

What You Will Do

  • Supervise daily operations of the Public Works Shop.
  • Perform and oversee maintenance and repair of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Manage fleet inspections, records, inventory, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate work assignments, repair priorities, and parts purchasing.
  • Assist with other Public Works operations (such as snow removal) as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • ASE Certification required at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire if you don't already possess one. We provide paid training for the licensure.
  • Five (5) years of mechanical experience (including automotive and/or heavy equipment maintenance) with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical training in automotive technology, diesel mechanics, or a related field.
  • Oversight of fleet maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Experience with equipment inspections, inventory management, and fleet recordkeeping systems.


This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm (Memorial Day to Labor Day) and from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (Labor Day to Memorial Day).
