Northland Country Club (NCC) is accepting resumes for Seasonal Golf Shop Associate positions. We are seeking passionate and self-aware individuals who will use their talents in the areas of golf and hospitality to connect with our members and guests to enhance the golf experience.

Pay: $14 - $16 an hour based on experience

The Seasonal Golf Shop Associate is responsible for promoting the game of golf and being a brand ambassador for NCC. They will assist in all facets of the golf shop operations including merchandising, managing daily play, and assisting members to create a first-class experience. If you are the candidate chosen for this role, you will work alongside an exceptional team of PGA professionals and club staff.

Northland Country Club was founded in1899 by prominent Duluth businessmen, Northland Country Club is one of the five oldest country clubs in Minnesota. Donald Ross was hired by the club in 1923 and laid out a championship golf course that has hosted two prestigious Western Amateurs and a U.S Women's Open. The club plays host to the annual Northland Men's Invitational, one of the oldest amateur match play events in the Midwest, the 99th edition of which will be conducted in 2024. Featuring dramatic vistas of Lake Superior and over 350 feet of elevation change, the course has been featured in Golf Digests Top 100 Classic U.S. courses and regularly appears in Best in State rankings.

Job purpose

Provide Members and guests with friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and quality Golf shop service.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Accurately reserve tee times and register members and club guests.
  • Ensure an accurate account of the transactions, collections, disbursements, daily reports, deposits and cash drawer/computer system.
  • Complete daily opening and closing checklists as outlined in the Golf Manual.
  • Perform merchandising duties.
  • Manage and sell golf shop merchandise to Members and club guests.
  • Gather a working knowledge of the club's policies and procedures in an effort to accurately inform the Members and club guests.
  • Perform any requested administrative duties.
  • Operate within all guidelines, policies, standards and constraints as established by Hampton Golf.

Qualifications

Two years of golf shop experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working conditions

Work is primarily indoors.  Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements

Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs., up to 30 lbs. frequently. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Ability to consistently lift, carry and load adaptive and other sports equipment that may weigh 50 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes.

Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf's Club Maintenance person. Following an assessment of the situation, a determination will be made as to whether a maintenance team member or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and/or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings and/or from using scaffolding.

Additional Responsibilities Include: 

  • Spread hospitality and goodwill among all members, guests, and fellow team members.
  • Welcome all members and guests in the Golf Shop and around the club; anticipate and assist in their daily needs.
  • Understand the entire operation thoroughly:
  • Northland Country Club rules and regulations.
  • Golf Operation’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist with all roles of the golf department as needed (starter, ranger, outside ops)
  • Assist HP/AP in placing of special orders and receiving/displaying of stock orders.
  • Familiarize yourself with all products in the pro shop: Clubs, balls, shoes, & apparel.
  • Keep Golf Shop neat and clean at all times.
  • Reconcile daily Jonas transactions with ForeTees.
  • Assist with club repair.
  • Monitor and update ForeTees.
  • Participate in Staff Education Opportunities
  • Staff is encouraged to practice and play. Goal is to play with 30 members each season.
