Performs the day to day activities of the Gift Shop. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Assists in the completion of all day to day activities of the Gift Shop under the direction of the Gift Shop Coordinator. As an employee of Bridgeport Hospital, adheres to all Hospital policies and procedures and requirements.
  • 2. Practices effective merchandising including but not limited to the following:
    • 2.1 Sales - Performs all aspects of sales of merchandise including: receiving, pricing, stocking and documentation of all items in inventory.
  • 3. Converts and maintains accurate efficient inventory system from paper system to computerized sales and inventory management system.
  • 4. Performs other duties as required to advance the mission, goals and objectives of the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary.
  • 5. Assists volunteers and staff with any problems relating to shop.
  • 6. Maintenance of shop- shelves, floor, windows, etc. need to be dusted, vacuumed, and or washed on a regular basis.
    • 6.1 Walking through each aisle every night before closing to make sure everything is in order.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school diploma, college coursework a plus.

EXPERIENCE

2+ years prior retail management experience with outstanding customer service skills.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Merchandising/visual skills; experience with specialty retail and hard goods. Excellent customer service skills. Proficient computer skills and applications to retail merchandising. Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve. Ability to work independently. Understanding of basic accounting, financial bookkeeping practices. Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills. Good planning, organizational and time management skills. Ability to meet deadlines, and consistently follow up. Must be able to work flexible hours, days, and holidays as needed to keep Gift Shop open especially when volunteers are unable to come in.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk.The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
