Job description

Backcountry Outlet is a new retail division built on a simple idea: expert gear guidance paired with accessible pricing. It's a place where seasoned skiers, first-time mountain bikers, and families alike can confidently gear up for what's next. Our stores are powered by Gearheads who live the lifestyle-skiing, riding, hiking, and climbing-and bring that credibility to every customer interaction. This isn't transactional retail; it's about connecting people to the right gear, providing expert ski, snowboard, and bike services, and creating a reason to come back.
The ideal candidate should have a passion for outdoor activities and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Shop Tech to join our team. The Lead Shop Tech will be responsible for overseeing all shop-related activities at our store, including repairs, maintenance, and assembly.
What you get to do every day:
  • Partner with management team to identify shop priorities and meet store goals
  • Oversee and manage the repair and maintenance program of bike and ski/snowboard gear
  • Perform bike and ski/snowboards repairs and maintenance as needed
  • Build, assemble, and tune new bikes
  • Mount new skis and snowboards
  • Repair and tune customer's bikes, skis and snowboards
  • Provide expert advice to customers on gear related matters, including gear recommendations, product fit and technical advice
  • Train and mentor shop techs
  • Manage inventory and ensure that all necessary parts and tools are available
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and developments
  • Work with the store team to develop and implement marketing strategies for shop related products and services
  • Assist on the sales floor as needed
  • Assist the Store Manager in opening and closing the store as needed.
  • Ensure the store is properly secured and alarm systems are functioning correctly
  • Manage cash and credit card transactions, and perform daily cash reconciliation
  • Other duties as assigned by the management team

What you bring to the role:
  • At least 3 years of experience as a bike and ski/snowboard tech or in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of bike and ski/snowboard mechanics and repair
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team
  • Passion for outdoor activities and a commitment to environmental stewardship
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers
  • Ability to remain standing for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Ability to move about the store coaching and directing associates; selling to customers and retrieving merchandise from stockroom or sales floor
  • Ability to grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to retrieve and replenish merchandise from stockroom or sales floor
  • Ability to lift and/or move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders to retrieve and/or move merchandise
  • Ability to operate a computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners and mouse to accomplish work
  • Must have a flexible schedule, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Regular and predictable attendance
