Job description


Title: Assistant Shop Foreman
Division: Operations
Reports To: Shop Foreman
Salary Schedule:
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the planning, organization, and work assignments to mechanics, helpers, and related personnel.
  • Inspect work performed by mechanics and other personnel in process and upon completion to ensure proper standards of repair work are maintained.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and productive working relationship with drivers, shop personnel, office staff, and other school system employees.
  • Inspect tools and equipment for condition and proper use.
  • Perform emergency road service or assign mechanics to such service.
  • Drive the school bus to assist with road calls and drive routes when needed.
  • Supervise the servicing, lubrication, tire repair, and cleaning of bus/automotive equipment.
  • Ensure and maintain the safety and security of the workplace.
  • Lead and instruct mechanics in the repair and reconditioning of vehicles and other standard and specialized machinery and equipment.
  • Supervise service and inspections for all vehicles and make appropriate reports.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE) required; college or technical school diploma preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger (P), School Bus (S), and air brakes endorsements preferred.
  • Must have a combination of experience and training in maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding automotive engines, including diesels. ASE Certification preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in truck and automotive repair work with past experience in supervision preferred.
  • Ability to pass annual physical required.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to climb, stoop, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must perform routine and frequent physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds infrequently.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
