Job description

Puget Sound Coatings has an immediate opening for a qualified candidate to lead our shipping and receiving department.  The successful candidate must have the  following skills and experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have one year of related experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assists in supervising shipping, receiving and inventory employees 50% of the time. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and assisting in resolving problems

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the daily activities and workflow of Shipping and Receiving Clerks to ensure priorities, deadlines, and customer requirements are met.
  • Coordinate the daily activities of inventory activities including cycle counts.
  • Assign and prioritize shipping and receiving tasks based on workload, production requirements, delivery schedules, and business needs.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, training, and direction to Shipping and Receiving personnel.
  • Monitor the quality and accuracy of work performed by shipping and receiving personnel and provide coaching or corrective feedback as appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for shipping and receiving issues and escalate significant problems to management.
  • Coordinate with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Project Management, and other departments regarding incoming and outgoing material and shipment requirements.
  • Help ensure compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, carrier requirements, and applicable shipping and receiving regulations.
  • Assist with resolving discrepancies involving quantities, part numbers, damage, shortages, incorrect shipments, and documentation.
  • Help coordinate the scheduling and preparation of outgoing shipments and incoming deliveries.
  • Assist management with identifying process improvements to increase shipping and receiving accuracy, efficiency, and on-time performance.
  • Train employees on proper shipping, receiving, packaging, material handling, and documentation procedures.
  • Provide backup coverage for shipping and receiving functions as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned
