Job description

Job Summary:
Custom Foods is the leading frozen dough manufacturer in De Soto, KS. We employ Great Dough Heroes and are looking for another person to join our squad! We are seeking a Shipping & Receiving Associate to prepare, organize, and load finished frozen products for shipment while maintaining product quality, food safety, and inventory accuracy. This position is responsible for organizing freezer inventory, building pallets, inspecting trailers, loading shipments, and ensuring products remain at proper temperatures throughout the shipping process. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and stage pallets according to shipping orders and product specifications.
  • Store finished goods in the freezer using FIFO inventory practices.
  • Maintain an organized freezer to maximize efficiency and inventory accuracy.
  • Segregate and clearly identify on-hold product.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
  • Prepare orders by verifying product codes, quantities, and lot numbers.
  • Inspect trailers before loading to ensure cleanliness and proper operating condition.
  • Verify reefer temperature settings, fuel levels, and trailer readiness.
  • Record trailer temperatures, time in/time out, and shipping documentation.
  • Load trucks safely while ensuring proper weight distribution and load security.
  • Communicate professionally with drivers and verify bills of lading and shipping paperwork.
  • Maintain required product temperatures throughout loading.
  • Report inventory discrepancies, temperature deviations, or equipment concerns immediately.
  • Keep freezer and dock areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow all GMPs, food safety, food defense, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Assist other departments as needed to support production, sanitation, and shipping operations.

Schedule:

  • 1st shift (Approx. 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday)

Requirements:

  • Previous warehouse, shipping, receiving, or forklift experience required.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to work in freezer and refrigerated environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8+ hours per shift).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and climb stairs or ladders as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy.
  • Team-oriented with good communication skills.
  • Food manufacturing experience is a plus.
