Job description

Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector coordinates and performs a wide range of quality activities with a primary focus on assembly inspections. This role ensures products meet type design and print requirements, supports root cause and corrective action efforts, and manages quality documentation such as First Article Inspections (FAIs) and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs). The Quality Inspector works closely with internal customers and cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment to resolve quality issues and maintain high standards of product integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily assembly inspections to verify products meet type design and print specifications.
  • Conduct quality inspections of varying complexity, including First Article Inspections and final inspections.
  • Coordinate containment of stock and work-in-process (WIP) as needed during quality investigations.
  • Understand and maintain effective communication and feedback loops between incoming and downstream internal customers.
  • Attend Quality Review Board (QRB) meetings to support quality engineering and internal issue resolution, ensuring issues are tracked and documented.
  • Provide real-time shop floor support for quality-related investigations and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with quality engineers on customer returns, including the Return Material Authorization (RMA) process and documentation of the quality portion of root cause and corrective action (RCCA).
  • Create and maintain Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and other required quality documentation.
  • Identify known or potential quality problems and escalate or address them appropriately.
  • Inspect machined and precision sheet metal parts using appropriate inspection tools and techniques.
  • Verify compliance of parts to engineering drawings and measurements using blueprints and measurement tools.
  • Use MRP systems to support quality activities and documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of industry standards such as AS9100 and AS9102 in daily inspection and documentation tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience performing assembly inspections in a manufacturing or assembly shop environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to verify that parts meet print measurements and specifications.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of First Article Inspections (FAIs).
  • Knowledge of electrical bonding practices.
  • Knowledge of the application of sealants in assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of torque requirements and proper torque application.
  • Experience using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience with MRP systems to support quality and production activities.
  • Experience with AS9100 and AS9102 standards.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a quality-focused environment.
  • Ability to identify, document, and communicate quality issues clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of related quality inspection experience and/or training, or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in a precision sheet metal or assembly shop environment, or equivalent.
  • Experience performing First Article Inspection measurements.
  • Familiarity with tools and systems such as Net-Inspect, CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), and Faro Arm is highly beneficial.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as needed, with appropriate accommodations where applicable.
  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy when working with detailed measurements and documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing environment within a dedicated Quality Department. Visual requirements include close and distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to distinguish colors to accurately inspect parts and materials. While performing job duties, you may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals typical of a manufacturing setting. The role makes regular use of precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment, and may involve interaction with systems like CMMs and Faro Arms. The environment emphasizes adherence to quality standards and procedures, with structured processes and documentation supporting AS9100 and AS9102 requirements. No specific certificates, medical monitoring, or specialized personal protective equipment are required beyond standard manufacturing practices

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
