The Marketing Director leads the Marketing & Communications Department of The Gathering Spot. This role oversees and drives the execution of all marketing and communications projects and tasks, and leads the strategic and long-term vision of The Gathering Spot's marketing initiatives - with a focus on driving member engagement, growing program and event attendance, generating qualified membership applications, and amplifying the cultural voice of TGS through timely, relevant, and brand-aligned content.
TGS sits at the intersection of culture and community. The right candidate has sharp instincts for when and how a culturally relevant brand should engage in current conversations - and the judgment to know when not to. This role is also responsible for telling our members' stories: highlighting their wins, their work, and the events that make TGS feel like the room where it happens.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Strategic Planning & Execution of marketing initiatives that drive membership growth, member retention, event activation, and brand engagement
  • Tracking Execution of Deliverables Across Marketing & Communications Department
  • Leading, Developing, and Monitoring Brand & Voice of The Gathering Spot
  • Approving all marketing and communications assets and deliverables
  • Leading the member communications schedule - including the strategy for member storytelling and the highlighting of member events, recognition moments, and community milestones
  • Building and managing the cultural calendar - identifying when TGS should engage in current cultural conversations and developing brand-aligned content that participates in those moments authentically
  • Serving as a cross-departmental liaison to lead marketing and communications initiatives that touch various other departments
  • Direct reports include Social Media Manager and Communications Manager
  • Contractor and Vendor Management - including graphic designer, department admin, photographers, and videographers
  • Partnering with Membership Recruitment on top-of-funnel content and campaigns designed to drive qualified applications
  • Partnering with Programming and Member Events on event marketing and post-event content to drive attendance
  • Owning Marketing KPIs and reporting performance against them to leadership on a regular cadence
KPIs
  • New member applications driven by marketing channels (organic social, email, owned content)
  • Marketing's contribution to member program and event attendance - measured against targets set with Programming and Member Events teams
  • Marketing's contribution to club attendance and visit frequency - measured against baseline trends and engagement targets
  • Member engagement with marketing communications - email open rates, click-through rates, and member feedback on storytelling content
  • Social media performance against current algorithm benchmarks - including save rate, share rate, and watch completion (not just likes and impressions)
  • On-time delivery of marketing and communications deliverables against department calendar
  • Cross-functional satisfaction with marketing partnership - measured through quarterly check-ins with Membership Recruitment, Programming, Private Events, and Member Experience
Job Requirements
  • 7+ years of marketing and communications experience, ideally including hospitality, membership, lifestyle brands, or media companies
  • Direct experience managing and developing a marketing and communications team - your direct reports should be your strongest references
  • Sharp cultural instincts - comfortable identifying when and how a culturally relevant brand should engage in current conversations, and confident in the judgment of when not to
  • Demonstrated experience in member or community-driven storytelling - bringing real people, real moments, and real wins to the front of brand communications
  • Track record of running a marketing function that shipped daily and drove measurable business outcomes - member acquisition, retention, ticket sales, event attendance - not just impressions
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, deliverables, and timelines simultaneously and effectively
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of marketing creatives, closely tracking timelines and deliverables
  • Ability to work well with a team and collaborate effectively
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with quick turnaround
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of data-driven marketing decision making and analysis - including current understanding of social platform algorithm trends
  • Flexibility to be available when needed outside of typical work hours, including evenings and weekends during major events and brand moments
  • Comfort in a fast-moving, owner-led business
