Job description

We are seeking a Senior Director, Product Management, to lead the analyst experience layer of our Surveillance platform. This is a player-coach role. You will own product strategy and drive execution directly while leading a small team of product managers. You are not here to manage up and delegate down. You are here to set the standard and do the work alongside the team.ย

The platform has two defining challenges: closing the gap between its AI capabilities and the analyst experience that surfacesย them andย defining the API and extensibility surfaces that let sophisticated customers build on top ofย the platformย rather than around it. Bothย requireย aย product leader who is equally fluent in UX thinking and developer-facing product design.ย

You will own the product strategy, roadmap, and execution partneringย directly withย Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, Professional Services,ย Marketing/GTM, Pre-Sales and Compliance Teamsย to define whatย the productย is, who it serves, and how it wins.ย

What you'll do?

Product Strategy and Visionย

  • Define and evolve the platform strategy, roadmap, and capability priorities across analyst experience, workflow infrastructure, and extensibility surfaces.ย

  • Translate AI and ML capabilities into a product experience that compliance analysts canย use,ย and regulators can audit.ย

  • Own theย productย extensibility strategy: define the API and integration surfaces that allowย customers and partnerย teams toย self-serviceย and embedย productย capabilities.ย

  • Maintain a clear view of the competitive landscape and develop differentiated positioning grounded in product reality.ย

UX and Analyst Experienceย

  • Own the end-to-end analyst experience: from alert surfacing to resolution, including explainability, reason code workflows, and audit trail completeness.ย

  • Drive UX investment as a strategic lever, not a polish pass. The analyst workflow directly affects model quality through the feedback loop. UX decisions have downstream data consequences.ย

  • Work closely with Design to move from concept to delivered capability, with direct accountability for closing the gap between the platformโ€™s AI narrative and the actual experienceย complianceย analystsย have today.ย

API and Extensibility Product Ownershipย

  • Define and own the API surface: alert queues, review actions, reporting, reason code taxonomies, and workflow configuration.ย

  • Build the product strategy for programmatic extensibility, including integrations with external agents,ย policymakerย prompting surfaces, and developer-facing documentation.ย

  • Establish the commercial packaging model for extensibility capabilities: what is a subscription tier, what is usage-based, and what justifies a premium price point.ย

Cross-Functional Leadershipย

  • Partner with Engineering on capacity allocation,ย releaseย readiness, and operational discipline. You will bring specifications that are complete enough for engineering to build without coming back for clarification.ย

  • Partner with the AI/ML Product team on the handoff betweenย AI/MLย capabilities and theย experienceย surface that exposes them. Own the feedback routing requirements that make the compounding data flywheel work.ย

  • Partner with Professional Services and Customer Experience to translate customer pain intoย data-backedย defensible priorities. Show up where customers are, not just where internal stakeholders are.ย

Team Leadershipย

  • Lead a smallย team ofย geographically distributedย product managersย as aย player coach. Set standards through your own work, not through delegation.ย

  • Develop PM craft on the team: problem framing, evidence-based prioritization, and outcome measurement.ย This team needs a model to follow, not a manager to report to.ย

  • Own the teamโ€™s operating cadence, including sprint reviews, prioritization forums, and stakeholder communications.ย

What youโ€™ll bring
  • 10+ years of product management experience, withย a track recordย of shipping product at enterprise scale.ย
  • 3+ years ofย management experience. Player-coach: you have managed PMs while still owning product work directly.ย
  • Demonstrated UX product ownership: experience defining analyst or end-user workflows, not just feature requirements. You have shipped products where the experience quality was differentiator.
  • Demonstrated API product experience: experience defining and owning developer-facing API surfaces or extensibility layers as product decisions. You have written API product specs, not just API documentation.ย
  • Experience with enterprise SaaS products in regulated industries. You understand what it means to ship software where wrong answers create legal or regulatory exposure.ย
  • Strong written communication. You write product specs that engineering can build fromย strategy documents that executives can act on. These are different documents and you know the difference.ย
  • Experience working in a cross-functional model with Engineering, Design, and Data Science as genuine peers, not as service organizations.ย
ย
ย
ย
ย
ย
ย
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in financial services, compliance, legal technology, or another domain where AI explainability and auditability are not optional.ย
  • Experience commercializing AI or ML capabilities: translating model performance into product value, and product value into pricing and packaging decisions.ย
  • Experience owning products where the feedback loop between end users and AI models was a first-class product concern, not a data science pipeline.ย
  • Experience managing products with both a UI surface and a developer-facing surface simultaneously. The two require different decision frameworks,ย and you haveย operatedย in both.ย
  • Experience in a PE-backed or exit-horizon company where product decisions are evaluated against near-term financial metrics alongside long-term platform value.ย
ย
What do we offer?
  • Healthcare insurance:ย We provide medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a flexible spending account that allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Stock options.
  • Personal time off: A healthy work-life balance is critical to your success at the office. Smarsh offers a โ€œtake-what-you-needโ€ time off policy as well as flexible work arrangements.
  • 401K Match: Smarsh provides a 4% 401K match for which employees are fully vested on day one.
  • Sabbatical: The Smarsh sabbatical programme provides a time to recharge, study or simply do something you are passionate about away from the workplace. Employees are eligible after six years of service.
  • Recognition: Weโ€™re big on kudos for a job well done. Our employee-recognition programme enables co-workers to nominate their peers who best embody our core values for recognition.
The above salary range represents Smarsh's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. Any applicable bonus programs will be discussed during the recruiting process.
ย
The salary for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, location, specialty and training.
ย
Local cost of living assessments are done for each new hire at the time of offer.
Don't meet every requirement? Apply anyway! We value diverse candidates and encourage applications, even if you don't perfectly match the job description. Studies have shown that some strong candidates may self-select out of the interview process prematurely, at Smarsh we encourage an inclusive, high-performing environment.
