Shipping Associate information

What are Shipping Associates?

Shipping Associates are logistics professionals responsible for preparing, packaging, and dispatching outgoing shipments from warehouses or distribution centers. They manage the documentation for outgoing goods, ensure orders are accurately filled, and coordinate with carriers to meet delivery schedules. Shipping Associates also inspect packages for damage, track inventory, and may operate equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks. Their role is essential in ensuring that products reach customers efficiently and in good condition.

What are some common challenges faced by Shipping Associates, and how can they be managed effectively?

Shipping Associates often encounter challenges such as handling tight deadlines, managing high volumes of packages, and ensuring accurate documentation for each shipment. Staying organized and maintaining clear communication with warehouse staff and carriers are key strategies for success. Utilizing shipping software and double-checking order details can help minimize errors and improve efficiency. Adapting to fast-paced environments and being proactive in problem-solving also contribute to a smooth shipping process.

Job description

Job Title: Shipper and Receiver

Job Description

This role focuses on accurately picking, packing, and shipping Health Canada regulated allergen medicines from a pharmaceutical warehouse to clinics across the border. You work in a small, close-knit shipping department team, handling fragile products and maintaining precise documentation in a highly regulated environment. Strong computer skills and attention to detail are essential to ensure compliance with Health Canada requirements and internal procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Pick orders accurately for Health Canada regulated allergen medicines in accordance with established procedures and documentation standards.
  • Pack fragile pharmaceutical products securely to prevent damage during transport and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Perform shipping and receiving activities, including preparing shipments, processing incoming deliveries, and verifying quantities against documentation.
  • Use computer systems to manage orders, inventory updates, and shipping documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines governing pharmaceutical products and Health Canada requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, including counting, tracking, and reporting stock levels as needed.
  • Handle products with care in a clean, controlled warehouse environment, ensuring proper storage and organization.
  • Collaborate closely with a small shipping/receiving team to coordinate daily workload and meet shipping deadlines.
  • Take ownership of tasks and responsibilities within the shipping department, reflecting a small company mentality and accountability for your role.
  • Remain flexible and open to assisting with other duties in the warehouse when needed to support overall operations.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of order picking experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of shipping and receiving experience, including handling outbound and inbound orders.
  • Experience working with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in a regulated or process-driven environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to quickly learn and use warehouse or inventory systems.
  • Ability to work accurately with fragile products and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Comfort working in a small warehouse space with a small on-site team.
  • Strong organizational skills and reliability in meeting daily shipping and receiving deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for inventory or shipping processes.
  • Valid reach truck license for operating material handling equipment as needed.
  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly with Health Canada regulated products.
  • Familiarity with Health Canada regulations and compliance requirements related to pharmaceutical distribution.
  • Ability to thrive in a small company environment with a family-style culture and strong ownership of your role.

Why Work Here?

You join a clean, well-organized pharmaceutical warehouse that offers a family-style environment and a small, supportive team. The role provides valuable experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including exposure to Health Canada regulations and high-quality standards. You benefit from a culture that encourages ownership of your role and department, with the potential to transition to a permanent position. The small company atmosphere promotes close collaboration, mutual support, and a sense of pride in the work you do.

Work Environment

The position is based in a small pharmaceutical warehouse facility with a total on-site team of about four people, including a two-person shipping and receiving team. The environment is very clean due to the nature of the products, which are fragile allergen medicines requiring careful handling. You work Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one unpaid 30-minute lunch break and two paid 15-minute breaks. You must be comfortable working in a smaller space and within a small company setting where everyone plays a key role.
