Job description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Sheet Metal Foreman oversees field installation, fabrication, and coordination of sheet metal systems on commercial, and industrial projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, codes, and company standards, while consistently demonstrating trustworthiness and accountability in all jobsite activities.
The Foreman leads a crew of sheet metal workers by modeling a strong, positive work ethic, setting clear expectations, and maintaining consistent productivity and quality. Through team-oriented leadership, the Foreman manages daily operations, supports crew development, and fosters a respectful, collaborative work environment.
Serving as the primary point of communication between field teams, project managers, and other trades, the Sheet Metal Foreman acts as a reliable and effective team player, promoting coordination, problem-solving, and mutual respect to ensure successful project execution.
RESPONSIBILTIES & AUTHORITY: Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising team members, coordinating work schedules, inspecting completed work for quality, managing equipment and materials, and ensuring adherence to safety standards and project specifications. The role requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving and collaboration with other departments as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTONS:
  1. Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead, direct, and mentor crews of sheet metal installers and apprentices.
  • Plan daily work activities, assign tasks, and ensure productivity goals are met.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and professional work environment.

  1. Project Execution
  • Oversee installation of ductwork, HVAC components, flashings, and other sheet metal systems.
  • Review blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate installation.
  • Coordinate layout, measurements, and field fabrication as needed.
  • Monitor quality and ensure work meets industry, code, and company standards.

  1. Coordination & Communication
  • Work closely with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to
    maintain workflow and resolve field issues.
  • Attend jobsite meetings and provide updates on progress, manpower, and material needs.
  • Communicate changes, delays, and safety concerns promptly.

  1. Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce all company and jobsite safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure crew compliance with OSHA, local codes, and job-specific requirements.
  • Identify hazards and take corrective action to prevent accidents.

  1. Planning & Resource Management
  • Order and manage tools, materials, and equipment needed for daily operations.
  • Track and report labor hours, material usage, and project milestones.
  • Assist in planning look-ahead schedules to keep the project on track.
  • Reduce waste and ensure efficient use of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • 5+ years of sheet metal installation or fabrication experience.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory or lead role experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork installation, and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and mechanical plans.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal equipment.
  • Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license; reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in handling Heavy Equipment and tools used in sheet metal work

Preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience in commercial HVAC or large-scale construction projects.
  • Ability to operate lifts, ladders, and jobsite equipment.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • High school diploma or equivalent: technical certifications in the related fields

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Jobsite environment-indoors, outdoors, and potentially in confined spaces or elevated areas.
  • Requires standing, climbing, lifting 50+ lbs, and working with tools.
  • Work may involve travel between job sites.
