Our metal is used to create residential and commercial heating products that have been designed, engineered, and manufactured domestically. Headquartered in Lancaster, PA, our facilities employ nearly 300 people from our community. Every product that leaves our factory has been designed, engineered, and produced for exclusive use in North America. U.S. Boiler Company is a subsidiary of Burnham Holdings, Inc.

We are seeking a Shear Operator to join our team! Under limited supervision, operates power shears to cut various steel rolls and sheets per specifications supplied, usually cutting material up to machine capacity. Performs necessary measurements to insure conformance to specifications.

This is a full-time, union-hourly position located in Lancaster, PA. Hours are Monday-Friday, 6 AM – 2:30 PM, Overtime and Saturdays as needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Unloads plate, sheets and coil from truck and stores in proper storage area by operating a forklift.
  • Obtain material from storage area and transports by hand or powered truck to and from work area, remove and stack finished material.
  • Shear plates and sheets as instructed per specification verbally or from scheduled routing sheets. Using computer assisted or manual back stop gauges. Make sure material is flattened to specification by making necessary adjustments to rollers and coil shear.
  • Uses Vac-U-Lift to transport steel plates from skid or floor to cutting table for shears. Use roller table to slide material into shear for cutting operation. Transport coils form storage with forklift onto un-coil for coil cutting operation.
  • Remove all finished material, stack onto skids and/or other storage containers.
  • Use and understand measuring instruments, thickness gauges, tape measure and measuring square.
  • Assist maintenance to set-up and adjust knives for proper cutting clearance.
  • May have aid of helper to square and cut material as required.
  • Do all required quality control checks. Material may require A.S.M.E. code identification, date coding of material.
  • Successfully completing multiple duplicate training required for A.S.M.E. compliance.
  • Required to fill out work orders, job cards, data sheets, reports, etc. correctly.
  • Work station must be kept clean and organized.
  • Refers unusual problems to supervisor.
  • Performs other work as directed commensurate with this or lesser rated labor grades.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
