Job description

Job Summary and Qualifications

HCA Healthcare’s Hospital Based Services (HBS) delivers comprehensive clinical and operational support across emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and a wide range of physician-led specialties, pathology, anesthesia, intensivist, and laboratory services. The Shared Services Product Owner (PO) leads development of new scheduling-related products and Shared Services dashboards for HCA Healthcare’s Hospital Based Services (HBS). The PO is the subject matter expert on one or more service lines within HBS and leverages that expertise to drive data and application development, providing the business, operational and data context required to move projects from concept to deployment. They will work closely with HBS operations leadership to understand complex business needs and utilize AI in a hyper-agile framework to rapidly prototype and iterate solutions before leading application and data engineers to develop and operationalize the solution. The PO is responsible for ensuring that solutions meet HCA Healthcare’s architecture, coding and security standards and for supporting these solutions after they are deployed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Context Engineering

Develop subject matter expertise by partnering with business stakeholders to understand the “why” behind the product in terms of operational challenges, reporting needs and improvement opportunities

Capture the product’s operational context by documenting requirements, process flows, terminology, use cases, business rules and logic

Document the product’s technical context within HBS ITG’s applications and datastores, identifying data sources, interfaces and data flow as well as data quality issues and limitations

Synthesize operational and technical contexts to create a context layer that includes detailed prompts, instructions, context documents, examples and validation criteria to guide AI-assisted product development

Maintain the context layer to ensure it accurately represents the current business and technical environments

Leverage AI Tools

Accelerate delivery of business value by using agentic AI tools to build functional prototypes, including dashboards, reports, decision-support tools, data summaries and other products

Test prototypes to validate accuracy, consistency and business relevance and refine prompts to correct data issues, gaps in logic and reasoning, etc.

Work closely with stakeholders in a cycle of rapid iteration, reviewing prototypes, eliciting feedback and incorporating that feedback for review

Utilize and contribute to HCA Healthcare’s AI standards repositories (e.g., MCP servers, etc.)

Product Pod Leadership

Direct a team of data and application engineers to turn prototypes into products

Deconstruct product development work into manageable, actionable and prioritized deliverables based on business impact, stakeholder value, dependencies and feasibility

Drive development through the use of Agile principles, processes and tools (e.g., product backlogs, sprints, scrum ceremonies, ADO, etc.)

Coordinate development across multiple IT and business teams

Facilitate stakeholder review and product testing on a regular cadence and incorporate feedback into ongoing development

Ensure product development conforms to all HCA Healthcare’s standards, guidelines and policies (e.g., architecture, security, branding, etc.)

Product Ownership and Strategy

Be “the face” of the product, building relationships and collaborating with stakeholders of all levels from end users to executives

Support products by addressing questions and resolving issues in a timely manner within standard HCA Healthcare’s support frameworks (e.g., ServiceCentral, Webex chat spaces, etc.)

Create and maintain a repository of product documentation (e.g., scope statements, use cases, process flows, stakeholder approvals, etc.)

Build product roadmaps that align with both operational needs and HCA’s strategic priorities

Employ subject matter expertise to identify opportunities for the enhancement of existing products or the creation of new products

Other Duties

Performs global workforce management with potential working hours beginning at 7 a.m. CT

Performs occasional after-hours and weekend work for product development, releases, and support

What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree - Required

EXPERIENCE

5 or more years of relevant experience as a product analyst, product owner and/or product manager - Required

Strong ability to understand and document business needs and translate needs into actionable requirements- Preferred

Experience with Agile/scrum methodology and tools - Preferred

Ability to work independently as a product owner while collaborating across business and technical teams - Preferred

Ability to define and drive work at both the strategic level (e.g., build product roadmaps) and the tactical level (e.g., write user stories, plan and lead sprints) - Preferred

Strong critical thinking skills rooted in a “first, define the problem” mentality - Preferred

Experience documenting, implementing and improving processes - Preferred

Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills - Preferred

Familiarity with AI tools, workflow automation tools and/or low-code platforms - Preferred

Equivalent combination of education and/or experience could be considered

TRAVEL

The job may require travel from time to time but not on a regular basis
