SUMMARY
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a student position responsible for supporting the athletics communications office with sports information responsibilities, including statistical input, record keeping, writing, media relations support, and game day operations. This role is ideal for a student interested in athletic communications, media relations, sports information, and storytelling within collegiate athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as competition schedules dictate. Must have strong work ethic.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Assists with game day sports information operations for assigned sports.
  2. Helps compile statistics, records, and historical information.
  3. Assts with writing game notes, recaps, feature stories, and other communication materials.
  4. Supports media relations efforts, including credentialing, press box/media area support, and postgame needs.
  5. Assists with maintaining and updating rosters, bios, schedules, and results.
  6. Helps monitor coverage and compile media clips as needed.
  7. Supports website updates and content posting for SFA Athletics platforms.
  8. Assists with interview coordination, quote gathering, and storytelling efforts.
  9. Helps ensure accuracy and consistency in all communications materials.
  10. Provides support for championships, special events, and other communications needs as assigned.

  1. May require availability to travel with team(s).
  2. Performs other related duties as assigned.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
