Job description

Aquatics Coordinator – Southeast Y

The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment at the Monroe County YMCA Aquatics Center. The Aquatics Coordinator assists with the administration, supervision, instruction, and direction of swim instructors and lifeguards. Key responsibilities include ensuring a high-quality, dynamic aquatic program, building positive relationships with members, parents, and class participants, and maintaining a well-trained aquatics staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Swim Instructors
    • Oversee the quality, success, and growth of the YMCA Swim program.
    • Track and maintain swim lesson records for all sessions.
    • Perform progress checks for swim instructors.
    • Assist with the scheduling and monitoring of swim lessons.
  • Lifeguards
    • Responsible for the recruiting/supervising of aquatic staff personnel:
      • Review the aquatic staff manual annually.
      • Administer water skill tests.
      • Conduct annual evaluations.
      • Cover open shifts for lifeguards and/or swim instructors when necessary.
      • Supervise/coordinate skill checks.
  • In-service
    • Coordinate in-service training sessions and maintain and track all certifications of aquatic staff members.
  • Pool Maintenance/Safety
    • Oversee and implement protocols to meet maintenance standards based on best practices.
    • Ensure all risk management procedures are followed.
  • General
    • Work with the aquatic director to provide pool schedules indicating lane and pool availability every session.
    • Assist with pool emergencies.
    • Assist in the development of new programs and ideas (general member motivation tools, i.e., swim across Indiana).
    • Build relationships with members.
    • Stay involved with frontline staff.
    • Complete other duties as requested by the aquatics director.
    • Enforce policies and procedures for all aquatic staff.
    • Initiate coaching/discipline sessions with the support of the aquatics director and the Human Resources Department.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 2-3 years of aquatic experience.
  • Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a Y-USA Swim Instructor Certification.
  • CPO and LGI certification preferred.
  • YMCA experience preferred.
