Responsibilities

Summary

The Product Manager is responsible for leading the product management and marketing process for assigned products from determination of market need, through design, development, delivery, and end of life. Responsible for effectively defining “what” it is that needs to be developed. Tracks and resolves issues with all functional groups during the product life cycle.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Product Manager is responsible for the product management and marketing processes for assigned products by engaging cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of software, hardware and service products from the design process to customer delivery.
  • Manages the full life cycle of assigned products from development through end of life, including oversight of all product improvements. Responsible for ensuring robust qualification criteria is met through each stage of the product life cycle.
  • The Product Manager Creates, obtains approval for, and maintains a strategic product road map for each assigned product.
  • Researches, evaluates and manages the needs of all product end users, ensuring that evolving industry needs are being anticipated and met
  • Works closely with Sales, Marketing Communications Department and external public relations firms and advertising agencies to develop marketing requirements and/or promotional programs for new products/product enhancements according to target market plans.
  • The Product Manager Develops and manages product plans, in conjunction with software and hardware development staff, including review of schedules.
  • Tracks and regularly reports to appropriate departments the Company’s progress toward meeting requirements of product development plans.
  • Participates in product development and manufacturing meetings as needed.
  • Provides a single point of contact to be the company’s subject matter expertise for assigned products/projects.
  • The Product Manager Monitors product performance and leads a team that prioritizes which performance issues need to be addressed based on findings.
  • Mentors junior team members, product owners, on an ongoing basis.
  • Testifies as an expert witness on behalf of the Company as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors’ Degree in an Engineering/Technical, Business, Criminal Justice or related discipline or equivalent experience required.
  • At least three years’ experience in product engineering or product management in computer or software markets.
  • At least five years’ experience working with Company hardware and software products preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle required for travel to customer sites and conferences.
  • Ability to receive client’s approval to work on contract required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must live in the United States 3 of the last 5 years (military service and study abroad accepted).
  • Working knowledge of product management techniques and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide audience, both technical and non-technical.
  • Ability to lead and effectively participate in cross-functional teams in a matrix management environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Sound business judgment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Experience with product development and release to market preferred.
  • Understanding of product life cycle management.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Strategic product and business vision alignment.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
