HVAC Service Manager

Role Overview

Under general direction, the HVAC Truck Based Service Manager manages the service team, service assets, and execution of the truck-based business. The role is responsible for growing labor and material business, delivering customer satisfaction plans, and supporting revenue, gross margin, and service asset management. Success in this role comes from strong leadership, disciplined business planning, and a consistent focus on team development and customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the execution of the truck-based service business and maintain consistent delivery systems across the territory.
  • Manage branch service business plans, financial plans, revenue forecasts, and gross margin performance.
  • Drive profitable growth through effective management of people, financial resources, and material assets.
  • Develop strategic operating plans that align with service sales and account goals.
  • Build and retain customer relationships through networking in the local business, governmental, and professional community.
  • Review proposals, estimates, and account assignments with Sales to support accurate and effective service execution.
  • Audit service operations, support contractual obligations, and take action to improve customer satisfaction and performance.
  • Recruit, hire, coach, and retain service support staff while supporting performance reviews and development plans.
How You Will Do It
  • Lead with accountability, safety, and integrity so the team knows what success looks like and how to deliver it.
  • Stay close to the work by reviewing operations, proposals, and financial results regularly, then remove obstacles that slow the team or affect the customer.
  • Use monthly one-on-ones, operational reviews, and clear performance expectations to build a culture of coaching, candor, and continuous improvement.
  • Work as one team with Sales, matrix partners, and field leaders to balance account ownership, resource needs, and customer commitments.
  • Apply standardized tools, systems, and service processes consistently so execution is reliable, measurable, and cost effective.
  • Make decisions based on service performance, pricing, gross margin, and customer feedback, then adjust quickly when results need to improve.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Eight to ten or more years of progressively more responsible operations management experience in the service industry.
  • Five or more years of direct management experience.
  • Experience in HVAC, building controls, or a similar service delivery environment.
  • High-level competence in written and verbal communication.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to speak to large audiences.
  • Ability to lead and direct diverse teams.
  • Basic financial and accounting knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a Windows-based environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
Nice to Have
  • Previous sales or account management experience.
  • Industry networking experience within local business, technical, or community organizations.
  • Technical school training or a diploma in electronic or mechanical systems.
  • Five or more years in a service management role directing a similar service team.
