Description

Support the loading and unloading of intermodal containers to and from the rail cars. A hostler operator will use a hostler truck to spot and pull containers and chassis to and from track side. Operates an overhead straddle crane that straddles the rail cars and is use to load and unload the containers. Support the loading operation by setting up the rails cars, placing IBCs (Inter box connectors) and locking down the train once the loading is complete.
 

Accountabilities
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) 
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations 
  • Required to follow directions and be a team player 
  • On Call - Rotating board 24/7, including weekends and holidays 
  • Outdoor work that requires extensive walking, climbing on railcars, bending, stooping, and handling of 10 lb. interlocking box connectors (IBC). 
  • Container loading/unloading from railcars with overhead straddle cranes 
  • Use of on-board computers for data entry 
  • Operate utility tractors in rail yard 
  • Frequent spotting of containers/ trailers to parking slots/trackside 
     
Qualifications - Required
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience driving a semi truck or hostler (UTR)
  • Able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions
