IT Infrastructure Specialist (with focus on Computer Network Engineering and Security)
Are you a computer network engineer with an interest in security looking to join a small, dedicated team of utility technology professionals in Holland, Michigan? Then you're in the right place!
Reports to: IT Manager
Job Summary: This position is part of a multi-person team responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and supporting the server/storage/desktop/mobile computing/network resources and infrastructure of the HBPW.
Work Location: Holland, Michigan. This is an office-first position with the potential for some remote work following successful job orientation (which typically requires three to six months).
Essential Duties
โ€ข Design, install, and maintain server infrastructure to support applications and users, and integrate hardware/storage systems that impact multiple departments.
โ€ข Install and troubleshoot the installation of personal computers and tablet devices company-wide; maintaining both hardware and operating systems.
โ€ข Design, install, configure and manage LAN/WAN networks internal to the BPW network.
โ€ข Implement, configure and manage wireless network and security camera infrastructure at all BPW sites.
โ€ข Collaborate with the Broadband group to maximize installation and performance of the BPW LAN/WAN.
โ€ข Implement, configure and manage PBX, VOIP and related telephone systems and equipment.
โ€ข Maintain HBPW radio system and peripherals.
โ€ข Coordinate and verify system backups for all data file structures and virtual systems and develop and maintain appropriate recovery processes for these elements.
โ€ข Organize and maintain documentation of maintenance records, hardware/software, licenses, manuals, catalogs etc. within the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system.
โ€ข Design and maintain security permissions and roles for all internal systems and components, coordinating this effort with the IT Security Specialist.
โ€ข Develop and maintain network monitoring and automation systems.
โ€ข Provide project coordination for new or updated information technology infrastructure.
โ€ข Develop and supervise training programs for staff on computer operating system(s) use and facilitate upgrades and patches.
โ€ข Provide basic computer training, assistance, and associated technical support to end users.
โ€ข Provide assistance in resolving hardware and software problems encountered by HBPW staff.
โ€ข Manage FCC licensing and equipment for short wave radio system.
โ€ข Maintain UPS systems pertinent to LAN/WAN operations, phone system and the radio system.
โ€ข Maintain all application toolsets pertinent to above duties.
โ€ข Develop policies, and standard operating procedures following industry recognized best practices for network systems, to include standards for wiring, equipment, system security and routing protocol.
โ€ข Provide assistance to various departments on budgeting and planning for networking equipment and software.
โ€ข Coordinate network needs with application developers and users.
โ€ข Provide on-call support as required.
โ€ข Perform special projects in support of the Technology Department and all other tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Computer Networking or related field; or equivalent education and experience.
โ€ข At least three years' experience working directly in administration of computer, network, information systems, and telecommunications infrastructure.
โ€ข Demonstrable knowledge of Virtualization, Clustered Compute models, Network Addressable and Software defined storage, Microsoft operating systems, Firewalls, Routers, and Network Devices.
โ€ข Interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteous and accurate information and responses to community members, vendors and various levels of BPW personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Knowledge of Infor EAM systems, NetApp Storage systems, Dell Servers and Storage systems, Microsoft HyperV, and Microsoft Datacenter.
โ€ข Knowledge of Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco VOIP PBX, Extreme Networks Switches, and Meraki WiFi devices.
โ€ข Knowledge of Avigilon Security Systems and Motorola Digital Radio systems.
โ€ข Knowledge of Linux open-source operating systems - IE: Red Hat or Ubuntu.
โ€ข Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents - 5, Applied Math - 5, Graphic Literacy - 5).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
โ€ข Normal office environment with minimum discomfort due to noise, dirt and dust.
โ€ข Mental ability to frequently perform keyboard/monitoring duties for prolonged periods of time.
