The Systems Engineer's role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked servers, storage devices, authentication sources, and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Supervisor provides objectives, deadlines & specific instructions only for new, difficult, &/or unusual work. Work is reviewed upon completion & only occasionally to verify technical accuracy & compliance with practice, policy, & procedures. Employee informs supervisor of on-going progress &/or potentially controversial matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employee uses an advanced knowledge of skills, methods & practices & some innovation, analysis, & reasoning to choose appropriate alternatives from among pre-defined policies & procedures to complete work that includes successive steps & involves some non-routine problems &/or decisions."
  • Manage and monitor all infrastructure and system installations, including configurations, testing, and maintenance.
  • Standardize and automate processes and monitoring using scripting technology
  • Provision new servers, storage, and computing resources to meet requirements of applications, software, and operating systems.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure system related products and services.
  • Conduct high-level root-cause analysis for service interruption and establish preventive measures
  • Routinely test software for bugs, redundancies, and security issues
  • Integrate servers, storage and virtual resources, to support database, email, print, and backup services and their associated software into enterprise systems
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews for modified and new systems.
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree and 5+ years System Administration or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of physical and virtual server environments, operating systems, and related products.
  • Proven experience with storage planning, security principles, and general data management best practices.
  • Working technical knowledge of current protocols, and Internet standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, and SNMP.
  • Extensive experience with core operating systems, including Windows Server, Linux, Vmware.
  • Excellent Active Directory planning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Extensive support experience with Vmware or other hypervisor
  • Working technical knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SAN), preferably NetApp.
  • Working knowledge of network operating systems, including Windows 2008, 2012, 2016, Red Hat, Centos, and Ubuntu Linux.
  • Hands-on cloud experience, preferably with Google, focused on user account management, storage administration, and access control (IAM) across cloud environments.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
