Job description

Senior Software Engineer (Mobile/.NET MAUI)

Reports to: Development Manager

Salary: Up to $140,000

OnTheClock is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in.NET MAUI or Xamarin Forms mobile development to join our growing engineering team. You'll specialize in our iOS and Android mobile app development while working full-stack across our .NET backend APIs and Vue.js web app. OnTheClock is a successful Michigan-based SaaS company serving over 160,000 monthly active users with time tracking, scheduling, and payroll solutions.

OnTheClock is investing in engineering excellence, and we're building out a strong internal engineering team. As we scale toward our ambitious long-term goal of reaching 1 million users, we need exceptional software engineers who want to help continue building the technical foundation, culture, and practices for our team alongside other engineers.

You'll contribute to technical decisions, refining engineering best practices, and help us modernize and optimize systems that serve thousands of small businesses. You'll work across our full stack (Vue.js, .NET, SQL Server, MAUI, AWS) and contribute to decisions that will define our technical direction for years to come.

We're establishing a culture of engineering excellence, one that values initiative, continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and high standards. You'll work alongside other software engineers who are passionate about their craft, challenge each other to grow, and care deeply about delivering quality software. This is a place where your ideas matter, your growth is prioritized, and your impact is immediate.

You'll get to:

  • Join an internal engineering team in its early build-out, with fresh leadership and vision
  • Influence technical strategy and architecture decisions
  • Work on meaningful problems that impact 160,000+ users and help small businesses succeed
  • Modernize and scale systems toward our ambitious long-term goal of reaching 1 million users
  • Grow your skills across the full stack while leveraging your current expertise
  • Experiment with AI coding assistants and emerging tools to boost productivity
  • Enjoy work-life balance, flexibility, and a supportive team environment

We're a small company, building out a new engineering team. You'll wear multiple hats, work across the stack, and have a broad impact. If you're looking for narrow specialization (that you might find at a larger company), this won't be a good fit for you.

If you're a senior engineer who wants ownership, variety, impact, and the chance to help establish engineering excellence, not just maintain what already exists, keep reading.

Our Current Tech Stack (What You Will Be Working With)

  • Backend: C#,.NET, Web API, Entity Framework, MediatR (CQRS)
  • Frontend: Vue.js 3, Nuxt 3, TypeScript, Pinia, Vite, Bootstrap Vue
  • Mobile:.NET MAUI (Android and iOS)
  • Database: SQL Server
  • Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, S3, Cognito), Windows Servers, IIS, GitHub Actions
  • Monitoring: New Relic, Sentry

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, ship, and maintain features across our web applications (Vue.js/Nuxt), mobile apps (.NET MAUI), and backend APIs (.NET/C#/Web API) that serve 160,000+ monthly active users
  • Build, maintain, and optimize third-party integrations (e.g., payroll providers)
  • Contribute technical expertise across projects, offering architecture input, system design recommendations, and best practices
  • Modernize and refactor legacy services while balancing technical debt reduction with feature delivery
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, raising the bar for code quality and helping the team make better technical decisions
  • Collaborate closely with the Development Manager, Product team, and fellow engineers, to shape the technical roadmap and prioritize engineering initiatives
  • Debug and resolve production issues using monitoring tools like New Relic and Sentry, participating in an on-call rotation to ensure system reliability
  • Work on AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, IAM), CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and DevOps processes to improve deployment reliability and developer productivity

Required Qualifications - Technical

  • 6+ years of relevant professional software engineering experience, building production web and mobile applications
  • Strong expertise in.NET mobile development (advanced)
    • .NET MAUI and/or Xamarin Forms
    • Cross-platform mobile architecture and design patterns
    • MVVM, XAML, Prism or similar
    • Mobile-specific concerns (offline sync, push notifications, GPS tracking, performance, screen size limitations, app store deployment)
  • Strong full-stack capabilities (proficient)
    • Willing and able to work across backend (.NET/C# Web API), web frontend (Vue.js), database (SQL Server), and infrastructure (AWS)
    • Not just a mobile specialist, you can ship features end-to-end
  • Strong SQL Server or relational database experience (proficient)
  • Experience with production support, monitoring tools (New Relic, Sentry, or similar), and comfort with on-call rotation (proficient)

Required Qualifications - Non-Technical

  • Proactive and takes initiative: You see problems and fix them. You don't wait for perfect instructions.
  • Lifelong learner: You stay current with technology. You experiment. You read the docs. You share what you learn.
  • Excellent communicator: You can explain complex technical concepts clearly. You ask questions when something is unclear. You document decisions.
  • Collaboration: You give helpful code reviews. You accept feedback gracefully. You make your teammates better.
  • Low ego: The best idea wins, regardless of seniority.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: this is a new team, and we'll figure things out together.

  • Comfortable speaking up, challenging ideas respectfully, and driving discussions
  • High standards for quality and engineering excellence.

  • Experience with third-party SDK integrations in mobile apps
