OVERALL DESCRIPTION

We are seeking skilled candidates for the role of Vehicle Equipment Mechanic - 3rd Class (0603). The successful candidate will play a key role in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicle systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Please Note: Candidates under the age of 21 who DO NOT hold a Pennsylvania driver's license may not be eligible to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement, which is a requirement for this position.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
  1. Performs diagnosis of average mechanical, electrical and pneumatic trouble.
  2. Makes unit replacements and adjustments on vehicle equipment.ย 
  3. Makes repairs incidental to state inspections.
  4. Replaces such items as diaphragms, slack adjusters, application valves, air hoses; front axle assembles, quick releases and relay valves, mufflers, exhaust pipes, etc.
  5. Adjusts brakes and clutches; uses feelers to tolerance of .002 in; checks assembly for concentricity.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. ย 
  • Graduate from an accredited technical school in the automotive repair field with certification required.ย 
  • In lieu of recent certification from accredited technical school in related field, one year of work experience in the repair of gas or diesel engines is an acceptable equivalent.
  • Must satisfactorily complete qualification and performance tests including written Mechanic Knowledge Test.
  • Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License Class and be able to obtain a CDL (SEPTA will provide CDL training).
  • Must be able to work a varied shift.

  • State inspection and current emissions licenses preferred.ย
