What are SEO Managers?

SEO Managers are professionals responsible for optimizing a website's visibility and ranking in search engine results. They develop and implement strategies to improve organic traffic, conduct keyword research, analyze performance data, and ensure that website content follows SEO best practices. SEO Managers often collaborate with content creators, web developers, and marketing teams to achieve the organization's search engine optimization goals. Their work helps businesses attract more visitors, generate leads, and increase online revenue.

Is SEO dead or evolving in 2026?

As an SEO Manager, understanding that SEO is continuously evolving is essential; search engines update algorithms regularly, requiring ongoing adaptation of strategies. While some tactics become less effective, SEO remains a vital part of digital marketing, emphasizing quality content, technical optimization, and user experience. Staying current with industry updates and mastering tools like Google Analytics and Search Console are key to success in 2026.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SEO Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SEO Manager, you need a solid understanding of search engine algorithms, keyword research, on-page and off-page optimization, and typically a degree in marketing or a related field. Proficiency with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Google Search Console, as well as certifications such as Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ), are highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, strategic planning, communication, and adaptability set outstanding SEO Managers apart. These skills are crucial for driving organic growth, improving website visibility, and adapting to the ever-changing landscape of search engine optimization.

What are some common challenges an SEO Manager faces when collaborating with other departments?

SEO Managers often work closely with content creators, web developers, and marketing teams to optimize website performance. A common challenge is aligning SEO goals with the priorities of other departments, such as balancing technical SEO requirements with design or branding preferences. Effective communication and the ability to translate SEO needs into actionable items for non-SEO specialists are essential. Building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative environment can help ensure that SEO initiatives are integrated smoothly across teams.

Both roles require similar certifications but differ in scope and seniority, with Managers handling higher-level planning and Specialists executing tactical work.

How much do SEO managers get paid?

SEO managers typically earn between $60,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in analytics and content strategy may earn higher salaries. Compensation often includes bonuses and benefits related to performance and expertise with SEO tools like Google Analytics and SEMrush.

Is AI going to replace SEO?

As an SEO Manager, understanding AI's role is important; AI tools can automate certain tasks like keyword research and data analysis, but human expertise remains essential for strategy, content quality, and adapting to search engine algorithms. AI complements SEO work rather than replacing it entirely, requiring ongoing skills in content creation, technical optimization, and analytics. Staying updated with AI developments and mastering SEO tools ensures continued effectiveness in the role.

SEO Specialist

Luxury Coastal Vacations

Destin, FL โ€ข On-site, Remote

Full-time

Posted 6 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Own and develop SEO strategy and roadmap for owner acquisition and real estate sales, in partnership with the SEO Manager.

  • Conduct keyword and market research, build SEO requirements and briefs for new pages, and coordinate with content resources on production.

  • Conduct regular technical SEO scans, prioritize and coordinate fixes, and implement on-page, local, and AI-focused SEO optimizations.

Job description

Description
Awayday is on a mission to perfect the vacation rental experience, and this role works the front end of that journey. While our guest marketing SEO team chases travelers dreaming about their next trip, you will chase the people behind the properties. The Owner Marketing SEO Specialist owns the searches that matter to owners deciding whether to join our management programs and to buyers shopping for real estate across our brands. Bring them in, and you grow both the supply and the sales that the rest of the company depends on. This is a fully remote role, reporting to the SEO Manager.
This is a role for someone who wants to own the strategy, not just execute someone else's playbook. Working alongside the SEO Manager, you will decide where the organic search opportunities are, build the roadmap to win them, and drive the work across on-page, technical, local, off-page, and AI search. You will find the opportunities, decide where to invest time and resources, and deploy the SEO strategies that capture demand before competitors see it coming. When a page climbs and turns into leads and conversions, that is your work.
You will not do it alone. Our Brand Excellence Managers know their local markets deeply and connect each brand to the wider marketing team, and you will work with them closely for ideas, context, and reporting. Local is not a buzzword here. It is how every brand earns its place in its own market.
One last thing, because it matters more than the tool stack. We have no interest in the quick hack that spikes for a quarter and fizzles. We are after growth that compounds, the kind you can still point to three years from now. We love being first to try something, and we care even more about getting it right. If servant leadership, real ownership, a love of local, and a high bar for excellence sound like you, you will fit in fast.

  • Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity in SEO workflows.
  • Proficiency with SEMrush, Screaming Frog, GA4, and Google Search Console.
  • Ability to read analytics and backlink data and turn it into action.
  • A long-term mindset that favors sustainable strategies over shortcuts and quick wins.
  • Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple brands, sites, and priorities at once.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Experience using project management tools; ClickUp is a plus.

Nice to Have
  • Experience in vacation rental, hospitality, travel, or real estate.
  • Experience driving leads, owner acquisition, or sales through SEO.
  • A strong feel for EEAT and trust signals in higher-stakes niches.
  • Experience building SEO guidelines, playbooks, or best practices for a team.
  • Conversion rate optimization experience (a plus, not the primary focus).
  • Experience across a multi-brand or multi-location portfolio.
  • Experience with WordPress and PMS-driven websites.
