Work EnvironmentClient-facing, strategic planningTechnical implementation, analysis
Employer & Industry UsageConsulting firms, agencies, freelanceIn-house teams, agencies, freelance
Common Search & ComparisonSEO strategy, consulting servicesSEO tactics, technical SEO

While both roles focus on improving search engine rankings, a Seo Consultant typically provides strategic advice and client consultation, whereas a Seo Specialist executes technical SEO tasks and optimizations. The roles often overlap but differ mainly in scope and focus.

How does an SEO consultant typically collaborate with content creators and web developers within an organization?

An SEO Consultant often works closely with both content creators and web developers to ensure that website content is optimized for search engines and user experience. This collaboration involves providing keyword research, reviewing content drafts for SEO best practices, and suggesting improvements. The consultant also coordinates with web developers to implement technical SEO changes, such as enhancing site speed, fixing crawl errors, and optimizing mobile usability. Effective teamwork and communication are key, as successful SEO strategies rely on both high-quality, optimized content and a technically sound website.

Is SEO a good career?

A career as an SEO consultant involves optimizing websites to improve search engine rankings, requiring skills in analytics, content creation, and technical SEO. It offers opportunities for remote work, continuous learning, and growth as search engines evolve. Success depends on staying updated with industry trends and acquiring relevant certifications or experience.

Is it hard to get a job in SEO?

Securing a job as an SEO consultant can be competitive, but having strong skills in keyword research, analytics tools, and content optimization can improve your chances. Building a portfolio, gaining certifications, and staying updated on industry trends are also helpful for job seekers.

What is an SEO consultant?

As an SEO consultant, you are an expert in search engine optimization (SEO) technology, processes, and techniques. You are knowledgeable about the latest SEO and online marketing techniques. Your goal is to help drive traffic to client websites by enabling them to rank higher on Google search results. Common job duties include determining client objectives, developing an online marketing plan, optimizing website pages, performing keyword research, creating content, and fixing technical issues. Many SEO consultants simply provide a detailed plan for clients, while others provide more extensive services and complete the individual components of the plan.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SEO consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SEO Consultant, you need expertise in search engine algorithms, keyword research, content optimization, and analytics, often supported by experience or a relevant marketing degree. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Moz, Ahrefs, and certifications such as Google Analytics or Google Ads are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and adaptability help you interpret data, collaborate with clients, and respond to ever-changing search trends. These skills are crucial for improving website visibility, driving organic traffic, and achieving measurable business results in a competitive digital landscape.

Job description

We are a global digital agency comprised of strategists, creatives, media experts, data scientists, and engineers driven by one common purpose - accelerate business growth through marketing and digital transformation. Named a top 3% Google Premier Partner and recognized by Inc. 5000 and Adweek's 75 Fastest Growing Companies, we're constantly looking for "A" players to join our team.
The rapid growth is attributed to our strongest asset - our people. Our teams are highly collaborative and work closely with each client to set clear goals and objectives so that we can deliver exceptional results. Mindgruve is a place where every opinion is valued. Not only will you be empowered to contribute ideas, but you will also play a key role in the execution and driving success for brands across a variety of industries. Sound fun? Perfect - you'll fit right in.
Mindgruve is seeking an SEO Manager to join our growing SEO team. This is an individual contributor role with high impact: you'll help lead strategies across new and existing accounts, own technical and content SEO execution, and help shape how SEO is delivered across the agency.
You'll work alongside a growing team of senior and junior SEO resources, and collaborate closely with Earned and Paid-Media teams, including PR, Content, Social, and Paid Search teams. If you thrive in environments where your voice is heard and your ideas are implemented, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do Here:
  • Lead SEO strategies for your clients - including execution, adaptation, and ongoing evaluation
  • Drive keyword research, gap analysis, and competitive audits
  • Help evolve our SEO processes, templates, and quality standards
  • Oversee technical SEO initiatives - including site structure, internal linking, and on-page optimization - to improve crawlability, indexation, and overall site performance
  • Collaborate with content, design, development, and analytics teams to ensure SEO best practices are integrated throughout the organization
  • Partner closely with our Content and PR teams to align on-page, authority, and editorial efforts
  • Provide regular reports and presentations on SEO performance, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership and other stakeholders
  • Analyze and monitor performance, identify trends, and develop data-driven insights to guide decision-making and strategy adjustments
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing
  • Create and adapt SEO narratives and tactics to the AI landscape, ensuring future-forward SEO, not just the SEO playbooks of yesterday
We Need a Person With:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • 4+ years of SEO experience (agency, or a hybrid of agency + freelance/consulting)
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical SEO: auditing, internal linking, schema, pagination, JS rendering, and CWV remediation
  • Proven strength in keyword research and content strategy
  • Hands-on experience with on-page optimization
  • Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills
  • Reporting and performance storytelling - turning data into a narrative
  • Experience creating or optimizing repeatable SEO processes
  • Familiarity with core SEO tools: GA4, GSC, Ahrefs, SEMrush, Screaming Frog
  • Strong organizational skills, and experience in project management platforms like Asana
  • Experience optimizing for AI / LLMs
  • Experience working with link-building vendors is a plus
  • Experience applying AI-driven automation within SEO workflows is a plus
  • Experience with process standardization at scale is a plus

Compensation:
  • Salary: $75,00 - $85,000 (Pay range is based on a market reference point and potential job offers may vary based on the skills, education, experience and geographic location of the individual candidate. The compensation range reflects base rate only.)

Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Additionally, for eligible full-time employees, we offer a competitive benefits package including medical insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance; a flexible spending account; voluntary life and accident plans; and a 401(k) retirement plan with matching. We have six office locations in the US: San Diego, California, Los Angeles, California, Covington, Kentucky, Denver, Colorado, Nashville, Tennessee and Charleston, South Carolina. We're seeking local candidates (or those open to relocation) who are able to work collaboratively with us in one of our office's; however, based on business needs and unique job functions, some roles may be eligible for remote work. (Bonus points if you're bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese.)
Mindgruve is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
