Primary Function

Provides executive clinical leadership for the provision and delivery of healthcare services in a high-security facilities with diverse and high-risk populations, ensuring quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. Reports to the Facility Health Program Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee ambulatory care, inpatient/observation beds, behavioral health, dental, pharmacy, ancillary services, and specialty care referrals.
  • Develop plans, policies, and standard operating procedures based on best practices and government requirements.
  • Lead credentialing/privileging, peer review, and clinical governance.
  • Chair Quality Management/CQI committees; monitor KPIs and sentinel events.
  • Ensure emergency response readiness (code blue, mass casualty) and chronic disease management programs.
  • Coordinate with facility operations on population health risks and special needs.
  • Participate in drills and emergency responses as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • MD/DO, with clinical and administrative leadership experience.
  • Minimum of (6) six years post residency experience providing direct patient care as a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Preventive Health.
  • Minimum of (3) three years' experience in the provision of clinical supervision and leadership to other medical professionals and ancillary clinic staff.
  • Board certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Preventive Health.
  • Maintain current, full, and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine for the entirety of the employment term in the state in which the duty station is located.
  • Must have experience managing and overseeing multiple sites.
  • BLS/ACLS; familiarity with correctional/high security facility healthcare standards.
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and credentials required for access to detention facilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigations.
  • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, resided in the U.S. for 3 years in the past 5 years.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must complete all required training.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preferably in correctional, detention, military, or government-contracted healthcare environments.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages) preferred.
  • Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.
  • Detention center experience.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

  • Work is performed in a secure detention facility.
  • May require evening, weekend, or on-call hours.
  • Exposure to emotionally challenging situations.
  • Requires physical presence and mobility throughout the facility.
  • Participate in drills and emergency responses as assigned.
